Geez, Randy, if you want to hear something you never heard before on your recordings, just get a really crappy system and you’ll hear all kinds of stuff that you haven’t heard before, but you won’t want to hear it !! 😂 Well, actually, kidding aside, my take is on this is, if you ever spend enough money on enough stuff, you’ll get to the point where you’ll never hear anything further on the stuff you’ve been listening to, and if you do, it will be because you forgot you heard it already.😉

I was not happy with my Phillips headphones. It was long enough ago I have forgotten the model number. In that price range, I'd suggest a lower end Grado. Some people love them, some hate them. I'm in the love them category. Another bargain to consider is the Koss PortaPro, the definitely punch above their weight class.

I'm don't particularly like those plastic pivot parts used to adjust the headband. Once they break, the headphone becomes useless especially if those parts are not easily available. That's the sickness of Dan Clark's wonderful headphones. Those damn plastic pivot parts.

I don’t think you could really compare any headphone to a room speaker, but in any event, the open back headphones are a different animal than the closed back, and the open back always sound more open and airy to me, and actually prefer that sound in a good quality OBH, although it’s nice to have the bass presence that seems to be prevalent in some of the closed backs, but it’s all what you like. I have a variety of headphones because depending on what I’m listening to, and what mood or situation I’m in is going to dictate which pair of phones I gravitate to.

Schitt Fulla E is solid recommendation for desktop usage but in general Dacs don't do magic until 400$+ and amps only do magic if they are tube amps if you simply need power do a solid state amp at 100$+

I'm a speakers guy, which should not be a shock to anyone. There is no such thing as a headphone that sounds better than speakers in my opinion. Perhaps, better than bad speakers, I'll say that, but speakers that are decent to really good, no way. Part of the reason for my opinion is that headphones have ZERO staging! One notch down from having something strapped to my head from what drives me crazy about headphones is the total lack of staging. Staging only comes from room speakers, partly because of room dynamics of course. Headphones as we know do not interact with rooms, but therefore also have no staging. Staging is even more important if listening to a concert or something. It is also important in certain types of music in general such as ambient and the like. I have speakers that do not have beryllium tweeters and do not cost six figures that are not shy about details including letting me know if I am listening to a crap recording or not. Of course the other factor to this is that I am not an audiophile (even though I have been labeled as one many times, I take it as a put down), so I have very good hearing still for my age (part of that is overcompensation for my extremely poor eyesight). I never got into cranking music up super loud like they do at audio shows and such and like many do when they listen with headphones and IEMs.
@xprcloud
Жыл бұрын
Nothing cheap here, Audiophile snake oil territory , It does not take $450 to reproduce 10hz to 20Khz at low distortion and high dynamics. Your audiophool babble....beryllium vibe ...warmth...are you describing sex? food? or an appliance?
