They have released a studio version of this song now, it has some beautiful string arrangements added to it and they also added the 'car crash' section lol (you'll get what i mean when you hear it) They continue to amaze me, in 30 years they have never bored me or let me down, even my least favourite of their work is still miles above what 99.9% of other bands put out. Their (Radiohead) last album was so cinematic and Thom and Jonnys continuation into movie scores makes me think that The Smile was Thom and Jonny indulging in some simple punk style get it written, get it recorded, leave it raw, get it released, get out and play it, I think i read that Jonny said he was just reminding himself how amazing guitars are and how amazing some of the sounds he was still discovering from playing one.

Thanks for this great reaction video. This concert video is where I first heard this song a while back and it is just so incredibly sad. Going down, going over the edge, and despite the slings and arrows, deciding to turn. I seriously think that on some level this must be how Thom felt at some point. We know he loves Italy and how fitting that the car goes over the edge on an Italian mountain. I wonder if this is actually a song of how he felt when his first wife passed away? Well, unless we hear from Thom, we won't know what exactly this song is about. I absolutely LOVE Radiohead and The Smile and I think these guys ARE the top of the game!! Wow!! Thank you Dean.

Thanks Dean for reacting. They have since released a studio recording of this song (stand alone release), added strings but I felt it lost the soul of the song. Anyhow, ‘In Rainbows From the Basement’ is definitely a must

Basement please and then there are a ton of great b-sides that a lot of bands would have on their records and he has not done the Bends yet and I still think that album has a ton of great songs on it.

And I want him to do both sessions not just the In Rainbows one. I think he will love Bloom from the basement and the KOL session is more proggy which is his thing. I love the intricate percussion and I think he will love that.

I have been obsessed with this song since I heard it live last year. It was unreleased at the time so I watched KZitem live recordings, I actually love it more than the studio version they released this year

What's the time, Mr Wolfe? It's almost time for you to listen to The Smile's second album (Wall of Eyes releasing January 26). As always, we would love to hear your opinion......I am looking forward to hearing what Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner have cooked up this time

I haven't watch the video yet myself but I THINK he's sneakily sliding up a fret and then starting again mid-bend to keep that last bend going pretty seamlessly...

The studio version unfortunately lacks the kick of this live performance. But the first half and strings are beautiful in the studio version.

This video it’s easy to see what Jonny is doing. Still maybe hard to figure out though: kzitem.info/news/bejne/l4OgwJWtrIGSjGUsi=xFq7Lqft5fx3d136 My understanding is that he is bending to hit different microtones.

in the first 'chorus(?)' as in around 4:03 the drummer is consistently hitting the kick just a little late on each downbeat -- beats 2/3/4 perfectly in time definitely not radiohead to me. obviously same songwriters, but none of these songs have had that quality that Radiohead's highlights have had, so many of them. I do enjoy, but don't return to them often,.

not alway every single song every single show but yes, in general, for sure, as ALL great bands should be...this is why having a rock solid lead singer or singerS is so key. if the singer sucks live...I'm out.
