I love it. Back in the old days of Radiohead, they'd just play a new song when they were excited about it... sometimes you wouldn't get it on a record for a decade or two later, but it was when the creative output was almost impossible to keep up with. I like that Thom is feeling that "write it today, play it tomorrow" spirit again.

This is honestly one of my favorite songs by The Smile already. Also, that moment at the end is so priceless. Thom tries to tell them to stop right as he finishes his last lyric but Tom and Jonny keep going.. so in the sort of blankness of "what's happening? I think I just said to stop right? This is fun. How long will they keep going?" Thom just keeps bouncing along, looking at them, and Jonny looking at Thom, and then Thom finally says "that's it." and laughs lol and Jonny kinda laughs as they finally stop! LOL I seriously laughed aloud! lol Such a priceless moment lol

I'm so freaking excited about The Smile. This isn't a mere side project. This is a full fledged band with loads of potential, especially considering how strong their debut album is.

I agree completely. The best parts of that record are as good as top-draw Radiohead. I mean I honestly think Skrting on the Surface might be the best way Thom and Jonny have ever ended an album, and there's some fierce competition. I absolutely love the direction they're going in too.

What a tune! I saw this at Pitchfork in Chicago last Summer and thought it was one of the highlights of the evening, I think some people were labeling it People On Balconies in the live performances at the time that were uploaded and shared. The Smile looks much more of a home for Thom and Jonny than it did when they wanted to do something during Covid. I get the feeling Thom is enjoying writing and recording the songs and getting them out there pronto. Unlike the wait he would give to Radiohead tunes in order to get it perfect. Less cooks overlooking the pot I suppose. Oh, and I didn't mean to imply that they aren't doing these songs perfectly, but there is a new dynamic here that is giving these artists a second life as vital as that first. Can't wait until my next show which will be in March in Amsterdam.

Seriously between The Smile LP 1 and what is shaping up as LP2, there is a whole album within LP1 and 2 that would rival Radiohead's best. Not sure about the two albums separately. THAT SAID I'd rather get two 8/10 albums totalling 25ish songs than one 10/10 album with half that so I am not complaining. The first LP was about 6 great songs, and 6 good ones. Second looks like it may be even better.
