"Others conquered love - but I ran. I sat in my room and I drew up a plan" When I was in high school, I literally did just that. I read books on how to be charming. I even took notes. At the time, I thought I was at my most profound. Funny how those days were my most awkward and romantically unsuccessful of my life. Then I heard this song and was shocked that Morrissey had described ME. So I took his advice and things have been great. Accepting yourself isn't easy, but it really works.

As a long time Smiths fan I've just discovered this. It's a real gem as the previous post points out. Kind of rekindles that rare feeling of discovering something really special. Also, kudos to the Hacienda people for having the foresight of actually taping what we can now safely consider priceless moments in indie music performances. And thanks for posting this.

probably never gonna happen. for one, Moz and Marr briefly discussed it years ago, then Moz pied Marr off. plus I doubt Joyce would EVER want to play given the court proceedings he went through to get his rightfully earned share of the Smiths money.

"Accept Yourself" Everyday you must say so how do I feel about my life anything is hard to find when you will not open your eyes when will you accept yourself? I am sick and I am dull and I am plain how dearly I'd love to get carried away oh but dreams have a knack of just not coming true and time is against me now Who and what to blame? anything is hard to find when you will not open your eyes when will you accept yourself? for heaven's sake anything is hard to find when you will not open your eyes everyday you must say how do I feel about the past Others conquered love - but I ran I sat in my room and I drew up a plan but plans can fall through as so often they do and time is against me now And there's no one left to blame tell me when will you when will you accept your life the one that you hate for anything is hard to find when you will not open your eyes everyday you must say how do I feel about my shoes They make me awkward and plain how dearly I would love to kick with the fray but I once had a dream and it never came true and time is against me now time is against me now And there's no one but yourself to blame anything is hard to find when you will not open your eyes anything is hard to find for heaven's sake anything is hard to find when you will not open your eyes when will you accept yourself? when?

The moment your school ends, your life begins to disappear beneath you. When once you could kick around with your mates, now you have to compete for popularity in a game you don't understand. This song doesn't tell you how to be popular, but can save you a lot of time and denial. People can see through pretense. Be the best version of you, bide your time until you meet likeminded souls (which was a lot harder in 1985). Don't invest in people who are cruel. Observe the world. Home truths are hard to swallow, but eventually liberating.
