As a Mexican-American man living in Los Angeles I have this compulsive stereo-typical need to like Morrissey/The Smiths.
@AnyoneCanSee

When I went to Mexico I saw cabs with Morrissey/The Smith painted on them. It was so weird as I come from the same area Morrissey is from and was into this music growing up, and the two cultures seem worlds apart, yet it was big there. I wondered what made it click in Mexico?

Robert J. Williamson Morrissey's voice sounds like a famous Mexican singer named Juan Gabriel. Morrissey lives in Los Angeles where the Mexican community is big, too.

***** Im LA homegrown too! and Mexican American and I grew up LOVING British New Wave among other type music and YES The Smiths, Cure, Bunnymen, Erasure, Bronski Beat ect were SO HUGE in Mexico when I would visit. Funny though I have NEVER made that Juan Gabriel connection with Morrissey. I still don't but what eves, I dig this music A LOT!! :)

The pressure to go to the disco or night club was relentless. It continued into my 40s. There was a code for it which was 'going out' as if going to the cinema, theatre, pub, restaurant or a concert wasn't going out. I would rather have something to look at than 'jig' in a disco. If you looked at someone for more than a second you would get threatened yet the same people had been staring at you for ages. I would hardly call how they moved on the dance floor dancing. I have seen wilder dancing at rock concerts including the Smiths. Which is why I preferred to watch a film or live performance such as a play, musical, concert or dance recital. I got back into going to rock concerts to get that pressure off my back.
