Hasek was one of the BEST unorthodox goalies to ever play the game, bar none. There are some better goaltenders that are sort of "by-the-book" type of goalies, but Hasek defied what was normal while guarding the net. Players just weren't really sure how to solve him at times, since he wasn't predictable. He was also tenacious, and never gave up on the play/shot. It's really interesting, because it was like tenacity/relentlessness versus skill/angles. I think Hasek *almost* represented the "everyman" in his playstyle, and I think the fans could see that, and loved him for it.

Those moves are individual. You have your style and if it works you're the MVP of an Era.

In one person's opinion Hasek was flopping around but Hasek knew exactly was he was doing and he was scary good.

Hasek will always be the best, and was my inspiration for when I played goal. All them crazy saves were all for real he actually practiced them. They were designed to take space away and ice away to prevent goals

A couple fun facts about Dominik Hasek: 1. He was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1983, but couldn't play for them until 1990 because of the Iron Curtain. 2. In order to keep up his flexibility, he actually lost some weight in the summer of 2006. When asked how he could keep up his great play, he responded (with something along the lines of) "I started stretching." 3. He was one of the last goalies to wear the old helmet-and-cage combo mask instead of the more modern hybrid masks. The last was his Red Wings teammate from 2006 to 2008, Chris Osgood.

The commentator from the majority of the Sabres clips is Rick Jeanneret. He’s always that high strung when he’s doing colour for games.

As a Sabre’s fan, this reminds me of when I used to have happiness and hope, and describing Hasek as a cart wheeling psychopath is 100% accurate

Went to a Sabres game. Hasek was Hasek. As we're leaving at the end of the game, my friend starts imitating Hasek's moves during the game. The other fans thought he was having an epileptic seizure. I said 'he's doing The Hasek'. We were pretty drunk. It was hilarious.

As a wings fan he’s easily one of my favorites of all time! I appreciated his time here in Detroit! Great goalie!!! Dude was a beast! 2x MVP. 6x Vezina trophy winner. 2x Lester B. Pearson award. 2x Stanley cup champion. Top 3 goalie of all time imo. Up there with Broduer and Roy. That was also a perfect Dominik Hašek video you watched.

The saves against the penguins (lemiuex and such) was when he was a nobody for Chicago. They were losing in the Stanley cup finals and put him in when their starter gave up 4 goals. Those 3 or 4 highlights shown were from less than one game. They lost to the penguins 5-4, but only giving up one goal and making several highlight save was amazing to watch even as a penguins fan

The one reason he was so good, he NEVER gave-up on a play ever. He would put anything in the way to save the puck. You should check out the best of Jaromir Jagr (Yar-o-meer Ya-grr), another legendary Pittsburgh Penguin.

The NHL MVP (Hart Trophy) has only been won by a goalie 8 times, and two of those were Hasek in back-to-back years. He's one of 3 players total to win back-to-back MVP's in the last 30 years, the others being Ovechkin and Gretzky(who won 8 MVP's in a row...).

Hasek really was something else. No man will ever be able to emulate his style, it's so unique and it works. He always seems to be able to get even just the tip of his pinky toe or the edge of his finger on a puck.

Everyone else has said it, but Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy are also considered the "best goalie ever." It's tough to choose who was the "best" because they all had extremely different styles, and all had lots of success. They all won the Stanley Cup and they all hold different league records. Also, just watched your reaction to NHL OT winning goals, you may also want to check out NHL Buzzer Beater goals, or NHL Strange Goals. Cheers

Man was legit crazy. After his Stanley Cup win with the Wings his salary was up for renegotiation. The Wings offered him like $2mill/yr (IIRC) and he rejected the offer and countered at much less per year. My favorite goalie of all time, but truly a bit of a wild card on and off the ice. He is going to do and say some shit that will upset some people.
