Great video, glad to have you in Alberta :) I was just at the Northern edge of the Rockies in August...it was Bortle 1 as well. Other than the fact that it was about -5 at night, it always amazes me how many stars there are outside of the milky way band. Especially near the Big Dipper and Polaris (to the West during the summer), the sky is littered with stars you'd never see elsewhere due to light pollution.

Thanks! I completely agree. Once were done this trip, we need to move to a place where it's a bottle 3 at the most haha. Clear skies!

Nice trip… About your mount issue: it seems you own the same EQ6 R Pro as I do. I greatly improved its axis alignment with the PoleMaster dedicated camera. With its associated software, getting the right azimuth and altitude is just a question of minutes. Likely a must-have in nomad mode! Plus, I am a APT switcher to N.I.N.A., where plate solving is very efficient. I suggest to have a try.

Thanks! I was thinking of getting a polemaster soon. Maybe this Christmas. And you're right. NINA is awesome. I tried NINA on my last run and it's excellent. Will definitely be using it going forward. And it Took no time at all to get up and running! The platesolving made it even more awesome haha. Look out for that in my next video 😉

Congrats on your engagement! Spent a couple summers working in SK & AB mostly in the rural areas. Some great memories and really nice people out there. A missed astrophotography opportunity. Were you unable to do plate solving in APT?

Thanks! Ya it's a beautiful country. I wasn't using plate solvin in this video. But I took some photos in BC where I did though. Worked like a charm!

Bortle 1... Jeeeez! You should definitely use platesolving (astap) ... That will solve everything.

@@shawnharvPhotography regarding the astrophotography, those Bortle 1 skies are amazing. Takes me back to when I was young. I grew up in a small rural town in NH. Back then I had night skies that were clear and dark. I could easily see the Milky Way... now, many years later, I live in an area with class 6 (probably closer to 7) skies. The same place I grew up is now a Bortle class 4. Sad how light pollution has deprived us of the wonders of the night.

@@JonnyBravo0311 I couldn't agree with you more. Damn light pollution. Once were done this trip, we'll be looking to find a house in some dark skies
