Incredibly beautiful singing that brings tears to one's eyes. A wonderful singer, taken from us all too soon. May he rest in peace....

. . . makes this hour worth living to hear Anthony Rolfe Johnson and David Willison bring forth the beloved spirits of Ralph Vaughan Williams and dear Robert Louis Stevenson. And the finale glows silver silence.

This is such a beautiful song... We had to sing the first section of it for All District/State Choir Auditions. The first couple times I sang it for practice, it brought tears to my eyes ;v;

Home no more home to me, whither must I wander? Hunger my driver, I go where I must Cold blows the winter wind over hill and heather: Thick drives the rain and my roof is in the dust Loved of wise men was the shade of my roof-tree The true word of welcome was spoken in the door - Dear days of old with the faces in the firelight Kind folks of old, you come again no more Home was home then, my dear, full of kindly faces Home was home then, my dear, happy for the child Fire and the windows bright glittered on the moorland; Song, tuneful song, built a palace in the wild Now when day dawns on the brow of the moorland Lone stands the house, and the chimney stone is cold Lone lt it stand, now the friends are all departed The kind hearts, the true hearts, that loved that place of old Spring shall come, come again, calling up the moorfowl Spring shall bring the sun and the rain, bring the bees and flowers; Red shall the heather bloom over hill and valley Soft flow the stream through the even-flowing hours Fair the day shine as it shone on my childhood Fair shine the day on the house with open door Birds come and cry there and twitter in the chimney But I go for ever and come again no more

This IS a beautiful rendition of the song. I am not sure that I really like it in this key and for a tenor voice - but if it is done this way I don't think anyone would do it better. I'm not complaining by the way - it is wonderfully sung!

I think it's probably that the story of a rover sounds more natural in a manly baritone. It's harder to imagine a light tenor voice deciding to live in the bushes.

Edd Caine It's harder to find and more expensive than you might think. (I'm not saying your comment is off the mark, but I point this out because I have thought about buying it on and off over the years as I've considered learning the work in the tenor key, which is so rarely performed.)

***** Agree! Not only because they completely put one "off" the wonderful feeling created by the music, but also because commercials are really louder than the videos. Do they want us to go deaf? Many people, like myself, listen to youtube's videos with earphones, for Christ sake!

You can find a lower version bro. his version is specifically made for tenor, but it was originally written as a baritone piece.
