It’s so impressive that someone was able to replicate the feeling of the CD opening in a builder game. That alone makes this so impressive on top of the visuals that look stunning, it’s really really cool

Hi the main dev here, very thankful that you played the game put a LOT of effort and energy into this. You definitely should’ve played the tutorial tho to grasp the controls. For instance you can parkour on the ramps as well as sonic has the dropdash if you hold R2 when you touch the floor

I think if he's at max speed, his quills should be more spiky like junio sonic, but when he's running at a slower pace, his quills could be more relaxed

Man, I wish Dreams got the love it deserved. Sony really messed up by not making a PC version. Regarding the question about momentum and boost, I love both playstyles for different reasons. Boost is great for a rush and quick decision making while momentum makes you feel accomplished by really earning your speed and keeping it. I think boost gameplay would be great for smaller spin off titles while the open zone formula feels like it is a match made in heaven for momentum based gameplay. Kishimoto has pretty much affirmed several times that momentum will be "a focus" for next game so I think the real question is will the boost have any place in a game with a focus on momentum or in the future of the series at all past Sonadow Gens.

Honestly, I think the boost should be more akin to the power boost in frontiers- like if you attain certain speed or rings you can freely boost, and unlocking it later as a 100% reward to use it any time. I think momentum should be the focus cuz otherwise, the danger of boosting to win presents itself

They perfectly capture the look for Sonic here. What I really love and appreciate here is not only is the Momentum aspect is here, but they actually implement Mobility, such as the wall mechanic they got going here. Feel as if Sonic Fan games don't expand the concept of how Sonic moves and the potential he has for Mobility, focusing too much on "Momentum." Mobility and other things like Parkour can go a long way for Sonic and how it can further enhance his Momentum and Movement overall. Thus giving us a banger Sonic Experience.

7:26 Nah, you're not stupid. This is exactly what I expected from this kind of thing. This is why I gave up on SRB2. The amount of times a trail of rings had to guide me to where to go was ridiculous. I can see why open worlds go the sandbox collect-a-thon route.

Ay if you’re interested in more, there’s two more Dreams projects that I think are worth checking out if you haven’t already: Sonic Adventure Dreams Edition, and Sonic Venture. Neither of them are finished, but they aren’t tech demos either- they’ve got plenty of content each to enjoy

YOOO you finally played it!! I've been following Sonic Overdrive for a while now, and while the fear of any fangame remaining unfinished is certainly warranted, Overdrive has been in development for a few years now and multiple demos have been released. Given this is the "final demo" I feel as though the full game may come sooner than we think. BTW definitely give the full tutorial a run through since you skipped it in this video. It explains some hidden mechanics that help in gaining height and momentum, such as the Sonic Advance 2 style tricks system and how the lock on attack mechanic works and stuff.

This is so cool! Love that they gave Sonic so much personality on top of his toei look. The CD intro holds such a dear place in my heart. To answer your question about momentum/boost, I think momentum is best for the future of mainline sonic because it opens up way more possibilities for gameplay than boost does. However, I did like how Frontiers had small boosts as an option in the open zone gameplay because it made it easier to pick up momentum

10:00 there's no reason for boost and momentum to be two separate game play styles. Boosting is the same thing as spin dashing, a button that makes you go fast. The difference is that spin dash is not your top speed, and boosting usually is. The boost can be used to get you going and to aid you in gaining speed, but it shouldn't give you your speed automatically

10:03 I do like the boost, the boost formula has proven to work in Unleashed's Daytime stages, Colors and Gens, because it was designed for linear levels with the goal of finding the fastest/optimal route to the goal. However, I DONT like the decision integrate the boost formula in Frontiers' open zone. Espeically since the linear levels were relegated to cyberspace stages. Because even with the updates, the game doesn't really have proper momentum based physics engine, they kind of just added mechanics that emulate momentum. And even the boost in Frontiers feels more like a run button. But in my personal opinion, I think they'd be better off without the boost in future Open-Zone titles.

I grew up with boost and even then, I honestly prefer momentum skill base a bit more. Boost kinda feels like ur at a same speed pace while momentum it feels like u can get even faster if u do cool tricks n slopes

Only thing I wish was that the game made Sonic a little faster but I guess it maybe a Dreams’ problem I guess. Other than that, literally the closest thing to having a perfect CD intro gameplay. I hope Sonic Team takes the wall jump and expressive poses tho 🔥. Gonna play this game while listening to OG Sonic Boom n OVA South Island music 🔥😎👍🏾

@@demigodstudios Just played ur demo and ya ur right about Fadel lol. Tho my three issues with the demo tho is the camera kinda shakes too much when I jumped on rocks and gain speed. Plus some reason the rainbow rings don’t launch Sonic to places so I keep falling off the ground. Also ain’t a big issue but kinda wish the demo gave a charge button for the spin dash n drop dash. Other than that, 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾bro u definitely cook with this demo and getting the closest thing to a playable CD intro. I like how the wall jump works and the little Sonic boom as u gain speed. Also like how u done with model of Sonic and the added poses when he’s in the air. Shouldn’t really give it a score since it’s a demo, but it’s definitely a 8.5 out of 10. I hope u cook up updates for the demo cuz I want to replay it again n have new content to play😎🔥👊🏾

@@chillihog1543 Actually the rainbow rings are intentionally like that. I never like how they automated you so they purely exist as another way to activate the Sonic Advance trick system. Glad you enjoyed the demo tho I’ll take your feedback into consideration 👍🏼

@@demigodstudios Oh ok that makes sense. It still was weird since I got use to rainbow rings launching Sonic but I see what u mean. Also forgot to mention this. The homing attack on rails kinda is off since it sometimes it would shake n not exact land on the rail. I don’t know how to describe it but trying to homing attack on rail kinda felt awkward. Other than that, no props and I can’t wait to see what u cook up next 🔥🔥🔥

I think at this point we can have boost and pure momentum but I don't think we should have both in one game cuz then we just get something confusing where the boost just doesn't become important anymore like how in frontiers spin dashing is way faster than the boost

Boost is basically a glorified run button, i prefer momentum-based gameplay like the adventure games, because the spin dash just gives you an initial boost and the rest is skill-based, while something like unleashed, you press one button to pass the majority of the level, and all you have to worry about is react in time to not slow you down.
