Thanks for your info! I've actually just purchased the a73 and trying to find a video on best most intuitive custom function settings for event photography. Wonder if you have a vidro or what youve found is most useful? (Ive just learned also about the need to lock the wheel settings that avoid accidental changes while shooting, so that knocks out some usefulness it seems)

Thanks for the insight! I’ll take your advice and hold off for the a7iv announcement. Currently shooting stills with my Canon m50 and it’s adequate.

Yeah, the M50 is solid camera and as long as it's meeting your needs for now, I'd say hold off if you can.

Appreciate your thoughts and perspective on this, it can be hard to be objective, and sometime to manage my wants / wishes. Similar thoughts to your advise on the A7iii brought me to grab an A6000 now to help me wait for an A7four or who knows maybe Canon will throw out something I can't pass up in 2021, while I'm waiting for A7four. Also gives me a chance to prove on the A6000 whether I'll be able to do anything useful on a 2021 full frame camera. May 1k be one of your earliest 2021 accomplishments!

I think 2021 will be another interesting year for camera releases, not just from Sony. I'm truly interested to see how things play out and hope Nikon sees some new traction as well. Best of luck with the a6000, I think it'll be a great camera for you in the meantime.

I Appreciate your video. I'm looking at switching to sony from the ground up. I'm jumping in some deep water (expense wise) and looking at what sony shooters have to say about the sony A7III. All the best to you

I fall within the catergory of needing a camera today, my canon broke and canon just doesn’t offer what I need at a good budget. I shoot weddings so I need two SD card slots so yeah

Excellent, practical advice Kevin. Sony won't cannibalise the new A's so those specs should give everyone an idea of where the new IV will sit - I think your summary was spot on. DR and ISO performance will be incremental. I also think the IV is also going to have a faster sensor so less rolling shutter and improved silent performance. When added to 10bit video and x265 (around 4x more detail across the 100mb backplane), better EVF and 9 more mega pixels it will be a good upgrade no doubt, but shot for shot I doubt there's going to be a massive visual difference in most cases. If they added 16bit RAW HDMI, then that would undoubtedly be worth the wait... but the odds of that happening are low. This is why I decided not to wait and I picked up a A7III a couple of weeks ago and it's awesome. No regrets at all, especially when paired with the 100mm 2.8 STF GM (which is far from a 1 trick pony) which needs a little extra light. That is a killer combo that delivers truly gorgeous results.

I currently have a canon t6i and am saving up for the a7riii since I pretty much just to photos. Really interested to see what the a7iv specs are going to be but I'm definitely makingnthe switch to Sony. Going to subscribe and I hope you reach your 1k goal!

The good: It is still relevant for stills, far more lens options. The bad: Video, the end. If you're a fresh rookie, you have better options, it all depends if you're a fanboy of Sony that's all. The other brands have better updated versions of their still camera.

I shot weddings with a single a73 and it demotivated me from using more than one lens because of the time it would take to switch. :/ .... I seen that there was a special over the holidays for a new a73 new for 1500 bucks and I jumped on it. The camera gives me everything I need for stills and video currently, so I figured why not. Worst case scenario if I have to resell it it won't sell that much lower than $1,500 and it gives me a backup body as well as another body I can mount a prime or zoom to. The only thing I truly hate on this camera besides the LCD and evf is the autofocus point color when not focused. I figured that weddings haven't become any more taxing than there were in 2018 so the a7iii should be fine for another two years.

Yeah it’s tough switching lenses all day on a single body. I picked up an A7R3 as a second body about 1.5 years ago. That combined with a dual camera harness and a different prime each body was a huge upgrade. The LCD and EVF never bothered me, but I feel you on that grey AF Area box - it’s so hard to see. Looking forward to have an option for changing it to red.

@@KevinKienitz I can understand they want to make money, but I would literally pay and upwards of $500 per body for some of the features that the a7c has that the a7iii does not. I wish there was a way they can just charge us $50 per body just to get the colored focus point because that shouldn't be a selling feature.
