I'd never say that someone "deserves" to be hurt by mafioso, but JT Dolan was overly familiar with them to a ridiculous degree, thinking he can talk shit even when they've beat his ass several times. He then used the oppurtunity to shake his own friend down for money by lending him money and then charging vig. The reason he didn't want to hear it was because he doesn't know if Chris was gonna come back and kill him anyways for being a loose end knowing Tony's dark secrets. Chris is a paranoid sociopath and JT is a victim of the mafia world. So no, JT Dolan did not deserve to be killed because he didn't want to hear all the skeletons in Chris's closet.

The thing about JT was that he was kind of a reflection of what Chrissie wanted to be. And similar to Chrissie himself, JT's downfall was ultimately due to an outside, mafia influence which forced JT's vices back onto him. In a lot of ways, Chrissie is to JT as Tony is to Chrissie. You can't help but feel bad for JT the same way you feel bad for Chrissie, but you also have to acknowledge they did it to themselves.

I think Jt's subtle terror and realization of just how dumb some of them are throughout the production of clever is one of the funniest roles in the show. He went from being a supportive friend to Chris during a time where Chris needed one the most, to being 100% violated with a bullet through his skull. All by Chris lol. I guess that's what you get when you're square but assume you're OC by association.

That ending scene when Chris shoots JT is just some deep character development. Chris really wanted JT to be someone like Artie was to Tony; a civilian who is close to him and he can tell him things he can't tell to the guys in the family. Chris knew he had fallen out of favor with Tony and lost a lot of respect because of it. When JT just brushed him off and pushed him away; he realized he wasn't the kind of friend to him that Artie is to Tony. In fact, he wasn't even a friend at all. Chris realized right then and there that he would never have that kind of friend; and him shooting JT in the head was indicative of him giving up on having a true friendship with another human being.
