A big theory that carries a lot of water is that noah and catlyn did something together when she came over to his dorm. She knew meadow was out and noah was alone, she was jealous of their relationship, she was way nowv happy and upbeat the next morning talking to meadow, noah was actually using her "distracting" him as an excuse for him getting a C- grade. There's definitely more to then that even but it makes a lot of sense especially how noah broke up with med immediately after. I think he used his father's strict expectations as a cover.
