Could you imagine if there was still a Spanish Republic in June 1940? Hitler would have been able to invade without Franco's permission and the Mediterranean would have been a much different conflict for the Allies.

@@ionidhunedoara1491 Basqueland was never Francoists and Navarre was split. Are you kidding about Basqueland?? Are you kidding???? What's wrong with your head?????? Part of the reforms of the Second Republic was to allow Basqueland and Catalonia be autonomous. After Guernica you really think Basqueland were Francoists??? And till this day the Basques and the ETA hate Spain with what Franco did to them. Franco and Hitler murdered 1/3 of the Basque people in Guernica. What's wrong with you?????????????????????????????????????? Get off the stage.

@@ionidhunedoara1491 No, you are wrong. Look at Franco. He is not Gallego. Gallegos are handsome, fine featured, oval-face, and slim like the man in my avatar and Emilio Estevez. Franco was ugly and fat with a big wide bald head. His father was Andulucian. He was only born in Galicia because his family was military and stationed there. He tried to eradicate all celtic culture and replace it with his father's culture of flamenco and bullfighting. FACT

No one is going to understand what really happens in unless they understand that the Republicans were a communist coalition and the "rebels" were nominally a fascist coalition. These terms aren't perfect descriptions of the various dozens of political parties involved but it does make it much more understandable to use those terms because they are correct. There's a reason why the Soviet Union back to the Republicans. The Republican army was the Communist army. There's a reason why Hitler and Mussolini backed general Franco. He was In effect the fascist. You mention it was A precursor to World War II but it was a precursor to World War II in the sense that A large part of the war was communists fighting fascists ... Like what they had done in Spain. I know it's a lot more complicated than that but you only have 10 minutes. Cleave that out is to leave something out that is critical to someone understanding what actually happened.

"Indeed, the Spanish Civil War can be viewed through the lens of the broader ideological struggle between communism and fascism that was prevalent in the 1930s. The Republicans, supported by the Soviet Union, did include various leftist groups, among them communists. On the other side, General Franco's nationalists were backed by Hitler's Germany and Mussolini's Italy, which did align with fascist ideology to some extent. This war served as a prelude to the global conflict that followed, showcasing the dire consequences when such polarized ideologies clash. While the terms 'communist' and 'fascist' don't fully encapsulate the multitude of parties and factions involved, they do help provide a simplified framework for understanding the allegiances during the conflict. It's a complex history, and while a short video can't cover every detail, recognizing the influence of these ideologies is indeed crucial for a fundamental understanding of the war's dynamics
