That was a very nice over view of the whole setup. Keep in mind the VFD needs to be away from other components cause they put out a lot of EMI. If you get problems in the future you will know were to look. Cheers Ross.🙂

HI Ross yes I am very mindful of the EMI the VFD puts out but I have no driver cards in my enclosure as they are built into the Clearpath servos I have use an Igus double shielded cable from the VFD to the spindle and so far no EMI related problems cheers Bill

Hi Bill, great machine you've got there. I've been planning the build of my own with the MASSO cnc system but haven't decided what atc spindle to use. What brand is your spindle? Cheers

I well I found a couple of American spindles I really liked but at $5000 US plus I kept looking I saw that several people were really liking the Jianken spindles and giving glowing reviews then I started watching Piotr Fox Wysocki's videos and after his very honest review I was sold Mine is a Jianken 3.2 Kw 4 pole 24000 rpm 4 ceramic bearing fluid cooled ATC spindle after I had it set up I checked the run out with a normal dial gauge and the needle did not move so then I ordered a micron dial gauge and repeatedly got 1 micron YES I said 1 micron this spindle is so powerful and yet extremely quite Now the company was fantastic to deal with they get back to you quickly they will email you a copy of the manual before you buy it they emailed me just before it shipped to confirm the order was correct and I received a follow up email to check it arrive and I was happy with the spindle unbelievable and you always deal with the same person since then two of my friend have bought one and both love them so I would buy another one in an instant BUT do your own research and decide for yourself Check out Fox's videos he is a very interesting Guy wait till you see his machine it will blow you away. Price mine was $1400 US Ok cheers Bill

@@williamnorris1516 : In one of your earlier videos you accidentally plunged at high speed straight into aluminium. The tool went about 40mm into the workpiece before something (You?) stopped it. When I checked what your spindle was I quickly figured out why; 3.2kW! And Jianken... isn't that what Fox used? He had heaps of power, and I think his was only 2.1kW! Now I see you are using Clearpath servos... your machine really has a great spec. I was interested to see your reference to Fox's machine; it really is mouth watering. It is in a different category to yours, it has a much smaller footprint to start with. The more I see of your CNC, the more I think you have got it right for a multipurpose tool. BTW, your wiring in the cabinet is so neat it needs a glass front! 👍 😜

@@PiefacePete46 Fox is one of my Heros and he influenced my decisions a lot it was a no brainer to go with a Jianken spindle after his videos on them and he was correct they are a great company to deal with and I was after a good amount of power so went with a 3.2 KW but the down side is if its running above 18000 RPM nothing will stop it on that plunge crash you mentioned yeh I hit the emergency stop ! My wish list for this build was a Jianken spindle, Clear path servos and a Masso touch screen controller AND the big one of course it would have to have an ATC I also designed in the ability to increase the Y axis size by another 120 mm if I want to which would take it from 500 mm cut area to 620 mm cut area and that would allow me to add a third row on the ATC tool rack giving me 24 tools ha ha but that's all way in the future ok cheers Bill

What’s the reasoning behind the 3 separate 24V PSUs?

Hi Shawn well for me a couple of reasons I could not find one with a high enough output as in amps locally ( I was pressed for time) so just went with two and these were well priced but then I found I needed a third other than the spindle every thing else runs on 24v like the coolant pump the 4 solenoid relays for the ATC the two solenoids for the sliding tool rack the two solenoids for the mister and air blast the 4 fans in the enclosure etc etc the Masso is 24 volt but has it's own dedicated PSU so yeh I could have done it differently but that's how it turned out Oh and from memory just not enough output terminals on just one PSU and I did not have room for heaps more terminal block ok cheers Bill
