Colin Maiden Oval really only hosted Auckland Cricket matches when the Eden Park Outer Oval was out of action for a couple of years in the early 2010s due to being temporarily turned into hospitality/parking for the 2011 RWC.

My uncle works for an engineering firm who were contracted to look at improving the drainage at Western Springs when there was some discussion about turning it into the new cricket oval. I guess, when there's a natural spring right next door you've already got a low water table, and the surrounding embankment just funnels water down from Old Mill Road, a bit of flooding is to be expected. Maybe we could host one of those old Roman style naval battles they used to have in the Coliseum there.

Eden Park is a crap cricket venue, and North Harbour Stadium is dreadful too. As you can see in your final still of it if you are sitting in the main (only) covered stand you'll be looking straight into the setting sun.

I like that ASB Tennis stadium that looks so cozy. That's my favourite. How does North Harbour Stadium hold 22,000 but Mount Smart Stadium that looks 3x the size only 25,000? Kiwi bros help me out please!!!

This city needs some work on it's stadiums. A Cricket oval to get rid of the absurdity of playing Cricket at Eden Park. Eden Park is not the best place for a stadium in the middle of a residential area with local residents complaining constantly about events going on there. (Nobody who lives there now lived there pre 1900 so knew what they were buying into) A 40-50k rectangular stadium on the waterfront close to public transport links would be a fantastic idea.
