Found this when I went through the Epilogue. I was taken aback at how actually heart touching it was to hear the name of Stanley said by a stupid button I was not hoping for anything interesting or revolutionary from. I stopped for a second and took it all in, trying to consider all that the Ultra Deluxe had been. Is it a sequel? An expansion pack? A remake/reimagining? Merely an update? I cannot tell. And it took a stupid button that failed to say the incorrect name for me to realize and come to terms with how lost I was in whatever the hell the new Stanley Parable content is. Unironically profound. It’s a shame I’ve seen a few people walk past it after seeing all of the other buttons saying Jim. I guess I’m just especially painstaking in my combing of the game for potential content. I was still trying to open random doors all through my play through on the off chance one of them would open unexpectedly. None did, but I did find the Stanley button, so I’d say it was all worth it. Sleep well Stanley. Perhaps you will see more in another 8-10 years.

Narrator best boy. He left us a gift. It was so weird at first hearing it. Like "Oh, that's me! That's my name!" then "No, wait, that's the character I'm playing" The fact that Crows put it so far back in the game, until we have experienced almost all of Ultra Deluxe, until we're so invested in the story, until we heard the word "Jim" over 20 times, until we *became* Stanley. It's heart breaking not hearing Narrator any where with his witty comments. Just silence as Stanley does what he likes best, pressing buttons. Bravo Crows, this isn't a game nor a sequel, it's an experience.

After skipping so many years of his life by standing still, the Narrator went crazy and eventually left Stanley and/or died in the apocalypse. The Memory Zone was lost to time and left on ruins along with so many ideas the Narrator had for the Stanley Parable 2. But he left with one last surprise. One that shows us he still cared for Stanley, regardless of his skipping addiction. Just a button to call his name. A button to remind everyone of the middle man here, Stanley. Imagine yourself as Stanley. Living, breathing, skipping, walking as Stanley. Remember Stanley, even in this wasteland, you are cared for. And this button is proof.

Honestly, that button gave me so many mixed emotions. I was surprised it said "Stanley" but also in many ways sad. Considering its tucked in so far away among the Jim's, that he made the effort to have the button as he said say the name of the person playing the game as in the end this was always a game between the two of them. I think it's also because of the loneliness at that point aswell (even with bucket) that hearing our name just hurts in a way like the narrator is dead, gone or just so far gone due to the isolation. This game is beautiful, that it can make you care about simple things without much. A bucket that is so comforting it affects everyone. A faceless disembodied voice guiding or talking to us, and lastly just text on a screen that let us set the time. Each simple but surprisingly with character.

...Was I the only person whose reaction *wasn't* "Oh, that's my name! ...No, wait, it's Stanley's."? In a few of the Ultra Deluxe Endings, there were times when Stanley acted up outside player control, and those moments distanced me away from the character. The Player wasn't a perfect Stanley, and Stanley wasn't perfectly us. As a result, I felt less and less like Stanley during those points. -But then, during the Figurines Ending, while listening to the Narrator's story about his own past and his plan to let Stanley go, it became obvious that the Narrator had thought of us, and treated us ("Stanley") differently from his character("Stanley"). Him referring us as "Stanley" was no longer him misunderstanding who we were, like during the Real Person Ending. At some point, "Stanley" just became the name that we'd earned, after years of playing and immersing ourselves in the game. ...So, when the name "Stanley" came out of the button, my reaction wasn't "Oh, that's my name! ...No, wait, it's Stanley's." My reaction was "Oh, that's Stanley's name! ...No, wait, it's ours."

When I first saw that button and heard “Stanley” while watching markipliers new 3 hour long video playing the ultra deluxe, I literally just hit me so hard that I froze and paused the video for a second just to contemplate what was actually going on and taking a moment to think about the narrator and what we as Stanley had done to the narrator. Sure some people say it’s just a game and don’t really feel much sympathy when the narrator is trying to connect with him, but I genuinely felt sorry for the guy and going through all of the endings like the True ending, and the Red door ending, I just really wanted to say sorry to him for everything even though he’s literally fictional, that’s how wonderfully written this game truly is and it amazes me thinking back on it. Because when playing other games I know that the characters are fictional so if I don’t really care about them or dislike them I’ll kill them off if given the choice to, but the narrator man I couldn’t bring myself to be mean to him no matter how angry he got with me. 🥺👏❤️ (Sorry for rambling on, and thank you if you actually read all of this 😅)

Can it be?!? That the narrator missing Stanley so much he left his last gift? To remember, that’s the narrator missed him so much... To show he was the only and best friend? I interpreted this as The Narrator's parting gift. He had *alot* of time to think while you were trapped in Skip Stasis, and while we may never know his true reflections on the matter, I'd like to think in the end he forgave us for skipping, for wanting to leave him, for not wanting stay on the path paved by him. Much like a Father who wants their Son to become a certain person, only for the Son to become their own man, the Narrator eventually realized they had to let us go, which is why the epilog ending is the only ending where we are actually free, even if its at the cost of the narrator (whether it be his death or just permanent departure.) As for the button? It's simply his way of saying he didn't forget about us, about Stanley. He can't follow us any longer, not in the epilog, not in the game, not in real life, and he's okay with that.

The Stanley button, the "thank you for playing the new content" sign in the room with the timekeeper computer, and most importantly, the skip button, broke me for the first time I’ve ever played a video game. Because of my discovery of TSP in 2020, I became hyper fixated on it and accidentally formed a parasocial relationship with The Narrator, thinking myself as Stanley. Because of this, I couldn’t bare to do the Not Stanley or Zending endings. Once I played TSP:UD I didn’t even know about the skip button and the impending crisis Narrator would go through, but once I got to it, I couldn’t bring myself to press the button. I was crying and for the first time, it was because of a video game. I had to even take a break from the game for the entire day because I couldn’t just move on to the expo hall after what happened. That is why The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe is my favourite game of all time.

Y'know this really reminds of that one line from Netflix's Tick Tick Boom: "You know how many Jonathan Larsons there are? One. You can't just give up." Jonathan was on the verge of giving up his dream but his best friend reminds him of who he is and his importance. I feel like that could really fit with Stanley's situation here, especially since Stanley is all alone and in almost everything, he's always being manipulated by the Narrator himself and as well as the player. In reality, he doesn't have a true identity. And with Narrator gone and the only thing source of 'life' is a button saying the name Jim, then Stanley being reminded about who he is in these dire times is honestly pretty heartbreaking. In Tick Tick Boom, there's also a short song that's lyric is literally just a melancholic "Is this real life?" after the best friend told Jonathan that he's HIV-positive and may die soon, and Jonathan is just in distressed about the painful state of living in NY and his best friend going to die. It also really fits about how Stanley in this situation is Jonathan and Narrator is the best friend. Narrator is dead and gone, and Stanley is left in a wasteland that drastically changed from a simple office building adventure to _that._ So it would really make you question if all of this is real and make you contemplate about how it all lead to that. Also the fact that you just looked at another Jim button after pressing the Stanley one and just immediately snapping your head towards the Stanley button again after realization is peek personalization. Dunno why but I've always loved when players did little things like that; nodding or shaking their heads when Narrator says something, sitting down on the floor when Narrator tells you to really listen to him or what not, or just like what you did. Gives 'Stanley' so much personality even when he, in reality, has none lol.

I've never seen him or heard of him, so I had no relation or way to associate myself with Jim. So the buttons just said some meaningless name to me. But I know Stanley. I am him. He is me. I was just as immersed in this game as Stanley himself could've ever been. We had been through countless hours of nonsensical adventures, and when we found that button, it really felt like it said *my* name. (my name is not Stanley) But I really felt like it was - I slightly jolted at the sound of it, like I was being called, but nobody's ever called me Stanley before. I've never experienced anything like that before. To be called a name so different from my own and react to it like it's mine. What a game

In the demo hall he only lets you press the button a few times, and every person I've seen play it would continue pressing it until it sunk into the floor. Pressing it was fun because of the Narrator's commentary. When you take him out of the equation, you can have all the "Jim" buttons in the world and press them as many times as you want. I admit I’ve never played the Ultra Deluxe version (yet) but i’ve been following the stanley parable for a long while now and when is version released i was like i cant believe it finally came out and this alone already had me in a odd mix of emotions now since i dont have the game i can’t really experience it for myself so I end up just watching videos like this one but this certain video about this specific button in one of the endings completely just blew me away, this gag is so simple but i cant help but think about what this could possibly mean. A subverting of what you’d expect to hear, the monotone automated voice saying “Jim” instead suddenly says “Stanley.” Does it mean you are truly Stanley? Is just one of the buttons does that so its reserved for you, “Stanley”, to hear it at least once to prove the Narrator actually did attempt to make a button that says the name of the player? What if that really is the button that spoke the name of the player? When I first watched this video it gave me chills, knowing that ingame Stanley has been alone for a long time now, the Narrator is gone and the Memory Zone has deteriorated, no more familiar buildings, rooms, hallways or doors. Just the ruins of the Memory Zone you are left to wander about, you are reminded of what the Narrator has attempted to improve the Stanley Parable, honestly i don’t know what to say but this secret is perhaps the most powerful one in all of the games, maybe even more impactful than the Freedom Ending (the original ending when you do everything the Narrator says) or even the Real Player Ending (ends where you are put out of the POV of Stanley and it ends at you on the ceiling of the two doors room with Stanley standing still)

Honestly imo, i saw the whole game as a figment of Stanleys mind come to reality even if there are elements that suggest otherwise. More specifically, just two characters. Stanley (narrator/boss/employee 432) and the female character (mariella/stanleys wife/female narrator) add the bucket as a third character along with the other objects in the game like the line and the baby too. I understand the comments about how they were deeply touched about the Stanley button and some even said how it shows the Narrator's admiration for him (honestly i was like "huh. says Stanley's name instead") ; but don't they need a reminder of his speech in the Countdown ending? Should that can be seen as love for Stanley, ill be quite surprised but accept it for what it is. Heck, i even viewed the red door ending as Stanleys revenge upon the Narrator.

Hold up listen carefully to to what the button says. It doesn't say 'Stanley' it says Stan, *audible pause* Lee. As in Stan Lee the legend that created all the superheros we love today.

Anyone who cried from a button that says stanley when they press it is so emotionally fragile a stiff breeze could shatter their psyche.

Well I mean, if 96% of the comments are about it maybe they aren’t fragile, they’re just being human.

Theres nothing deep to this, its just an easter egg on how stupid the buttton was because it was malfunctioning, so the narrator came up with the idea of "Jim" to cover it up.

@@4Syorha No, its the same as the wall in the demo, the wall that was suppossed to be able to walk through it. At the beginning it wasnt working, but at the final act of the demo, if you go back to the wall, you'll notice that now it works. Its the same thing here with the button

That's the Epilogue, it's not really an ending. You can get there using a button from the menu, for which you have to collect all Figleys and restart the game a few times.
