The sheet music for The Star Spangled Banner is engraved on John P. Sousa's stone, which is at the band's feet as they are playing!

According to Sousa biographer, Paul Bierley, "The Salute of the Nations" was written in 1893 for the Chicago World's Fair. It is a compilation of patriotic melodies of countries represented at the World's Fair. The countries portrayed are Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, france, England, Scotland and the United States; in that order. I have never heard the piece performed and can't find any listing for a recording.

John Phillip Sousa wrote a piece containing many world national anthems. I have forgotten the title, and have never been able to find it. Can anyone help me?

Maybe they didn't go to training but believe me, being a musician requires a lot of mental and phisical streng. People has to compete agains hundreds of applicants to get one of those jobs (it can be 1: 270). Besides musical training is a nonstop path that takes about at least 10 years of training to be able to get on the audition or application circle. Sorry, english is not my first language. I hope you may consider a different point of view. to emugsymeg

Great job! Really? Talking about no woodwinds? It is not uncommon for a military band to use a "cut down" or ceremonial band. When a venue can not support a full band, a group will use the minimum amount of musicians to perform a piece of music properly. Anyone that questions the marksmanship of military bandsman should stand 300m away from me and I'll answer that question for them.
