Danny’s point of the structure being so different where you don’t have those in-between town moments is actually quite sad, and highlights one of the biggest thing about Bethesda games I didn’t quite realize.

“I don’t remember Skyrim being fucked” Skyrim on ps3 at launch was a disaster - when your save file got large enough you had to rest for 30 in game days in order to free up memory.

Starfield sounds exactly like what I expected for better or for worse. I do expect to be more enamored by the banal options in the game than the noclip crew. I'm down to hoard everything I possibly can and I don't know what it is about mining in games but I can never get enough. I'm going to spend so much time building a utilitarian base I'll burn out and never finish the game. That's my playstyle! I also feel like Bethesda games have lost a lot of their charm over the years as they've gotten more broad. It just feels so counterintuitive as they are in the perfect position to stand apart from all the open-world games coming out now by having more rich stories. There are 100 games where you can fly out into space, mine resources, and build bases. It just feels like Bethesda leaned into the aspects that don't make them unique. I was a lot more interested when it was announced 5 years ago but since then my space game cup runneth over. No Man's Sky's new update looks fantastic and I'm debating if I should just start a new run in a game I've spent 800 hours in or wait for Starfield which would have seemed like a ridiculous proposition a few years ago. All that being said I know I'll have fun with it and I'm happy it sounds like they kept the bugs in check. I don't know if I would have bought it at launch but I already have Gamepass so I'll play it.

I know Bethesda games having bugs has become a meme and I know how much Danny hates agreeing with popular narratives but Skyrim and Fallout 4 both had save bugs that would corrupt your saves or not allow the game to save causing you to lose hours of your game or if you trusted autosaves lose your game altogether. Yeah the internet is going to be annoying and you're mostly going to see people post some visual glitches but they are notorious to me for their catastrophic game ending bugs across multiple titles that I've personally experienced. Of course I also keep playing their new games so I'm part of the problem. I have a friend who's more into these games than me but he's not even remotely interested in playing at launch because of their past issues. No amount of articles saying "it's good this time!" will convince him you're not going to lose a save 20 hours into the game. If it's remotely like their other games we also both expect mods to fix some bafflingly undercooked parts of the game so giving those time to develop before a first playthrough makes a lot of sense.

Wouldn’t you know, I got a game-breaking bug in their “least buggy game” (Starfield) during the main quest and it finally was patched a few days ago. So yeah no, it’s still a buggy mess once you get into the weeds.

11-12 hours into this game you do not have a relevant opinion, maybe not even 30 hours in. Saying you just played oblivion and so Starfield suffers in comparison is so inane. Just a pointless conversation, shouldn't in anyway be taken as a final word on the game, and yet apparently this is the noclip 'review.'
