Montgomery County Council Vice President, Kate Stewart, recently participated in a Transgender Health Care Roundtable to discuss the findings of a community survey and report. The report, conducted by the Montgomery County Office of Legislative Oversight, revealed the challenges and limitations that the LGBTQ+ and transgender community face in the healthcare sector of Montgomery County.
According to the report, transgender individuals are more likely to experience fair or poor health and have higher rates of serious psychological distress compared to cisgender people.
The survey, conducted by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services and the LGBQT+ Advisory Board, also found that 41% of transgender individuals seeking trans-affirming care reported difficulty finding it in the county.
