I can't remember a road (including Hard Knott Pass) that was too steep for engine braking. I try to avoid using brakes as much as possible, especially on downhills to prevent overheating. Haven't had any isses with the T7 World Raid last month riding through Switserland. And if I brake I hardly ever use the rear brake, it's 99% front brake. It's much more effective especially downhill and there's more brake pad and disc so less heat. Anyway, great images! Can't wait to get back to Norway.

Great video again 👍 Caution !! Having breaks fail you twice, is a strong indicator a change of brake fluids are overdue. Until then, please ride safe and think like a lorry driver while riding fully loaded and with a passenger. When approaching steep descends, shift down a couple of gears and let the engine do more of the breaking. It’s better breaking firmly in intervals, rather than applying a light constant pressure as it may cause your brake fluid to overheat. Imagine you lost your front brake simultaneously 😳 Have fun ! 🫵😄

Hehe yeah that would suck 😅 I had a full service a brake fluid check just before this trip. It hasn’t been a problem since turkey, but this hill with this eight I guess was too much 😅

Also consider some other brake pads. SBS for example are made for harder use. 2-up on those gradients are bad news for brakes!

I've had that brake fun in the US Rockies. In my case, it turned out the vent could not keep up with the altitude change! And agree with @frantiseksinka9565, Marion, if she wants, really needs her own bike. Fiancee bench, drops an M bomb at the end....sweet....

If possible, could you leave either route numbers and/or (some) towns along certain routes that you took, and the start/finish towns. Many parts if your route look like parts of the Canadian Shield, the 'Cote Nord' route along the Gulf of St. Lawrence and parts of Newfoundland also. A very interesting video - thanks for sharing...

Warning: Have you ever changed the brake fluid on your bike? If not, I strongly recommend that you change the fluid and bleed the system. Old brake fluid might lose heat resistance and that gives it a lower boiling point. Under heavy braking, like those steep hairpins, that might cause overheating, which can cause airbubbles in the fluid and you lose all your brake-effect.

Respectful greetings from northern germany. edit: Like you I don´t understand people (guests) that aren´t respectful with the places, countries an people they a visiting. I practice "leave no trace" about 40 years, when this term not even exists... Norway and Scandinavia at all were nicer in the 90th without the masses of big white campingvans.

you have to be careful with your hot brakes. If your brake fluid gets too hot, you will get air in your brake lines. It may also be that your brake fluid contains too much water, causing your brakes to boil more quickly. when did you replace the brake fluid? It might be wise to do maintenance and bleed your brake lines.
