We visited the Stockdale Family back in August and looked at their Stratified farming System. They start on the limestone fells which look out onto the Cracoe Valley below with Swaledale Sheep which are either kept pure or crossed with the Blue Faced Leicester to produce the Nemsa Mule. Where a percentage of these gimmer lambs are sold , many are kept as replacements for their own flock of commercial mules. Dan weighs his flock regularly throughout the Summer to keep a check on their daily Weight gain. Records are kept on individual ewe performance to try and keep the flock more efficient, always culling the worse performing ewes.
