This is somewhat off subject. About 30 yrs ago a local druggie showed up at my apartment with LOTS of gear...told me it was all taken outside a Seattle club. As the pieces of gear came in, i kept saying nope, nope. Finally he...in desperation pulls out a 71 Strat! Forest green, beautiful Ash body..incredible figuring...Brazilian rosewood neck! $175 i talked him down to. Anyway...in the late 90's was short on Christmas money. Took it to a extremely successful music store. The owner ripped out $400 from cash register and off i went. Next day , knowing the mistake i made...went back with the cash and the owner told me he "misplaced it" So there it is...bad choice to buy it hot, karma got me as well!

FedEx left a $1200 1960-something neck in front of my house on a busy (and rather sketchy) street...the Seller paid for Signature required and the driver didn't get one, just left it. Luckily it was there when I phoned my son to go get it. They don't care, especially FedEx, using any excuse not to do their job. Imagine a world where you buy insurance to make sure someone does their job correctly...

I have been telling all my friends for almost twenty years to never ship guitars (or anything else of value) with Fedex. They are so bad, it's as though they hate musicians and are doing it maliciously. In one incident, I had a new DeArmond JetStar Bass shipped to my mother's old house in Wyandotte, MI in 2000 or 2001. The driver left the box (which had an enormous 'Fender' logo on it) standing upright on the porch in the middle of the afternoon, in a neighbourhood that at the time was notorious for thefts & break-ins, and it's a corner house, too! I was damned lucky one of my brothers showed up there a little while later & got it before somebody stole it... USPS & UPS have issues occasionally, but I've never suspected them of doing it on purpose; Fedex is another thing entirely. Take it from me, never trust Fedex with your guitars or other equipment!

The big difference with Micawber, Keith Richards' guitar, is that the neck pickup butts up to the neck. This one and most of them are positioned as far away from the neck as a normal tele. It actually does make a tonal difference. As for the neck pickup on Keith's it was originally the middle pickup in an SG custom that Eric Clapton had converted into a two pickup, recycling the neck pickup into the tele then giving the tele to KR as a birthday present. However Keith swapped the bridge pickup for one from a lap steel at around the time he swapped the bridge for a brass one and converted it to five string.

UPS once ‘lost’ my guitar and tried to blame me because it had no postcode on the box, they claimed no liability. The guitar was in their depo on the pallet, but the driver wouldn’t take it because of the missing postcode. After 2 weeks I drove to the depo and asked them where it was, someone had left it in the office. The postcode was on the other side of the box and driver didn’t bother flipping it over. I then had to schedule an appointment to pick it up from the depo the next day as they couldn’t just give it to me there. Needless to say I will never use them again. It was a new Squire Classic Vibe ‘60s FSR.

Returned a damaged Strat to musicians friend in 2002 through FedEx. Printed out the return label dropped it off. Followed the tracking then nothing. Just dissapeared. I had to wait 30 days for my next one to ship. It had 3 small dents on the back. They offered another swap till I reminded them the last one never made it back to them. They gave ended up giving me a sweet discount to keep it. It was a long 30 day wait. That was my 1st strat. I still have it.

Controversial: Considering the enormous number of packages that these companies ship all over the World and pretty quickly at that, I would say that the failure rate is amazingly low ... The difference these days is very much that due to Social Media, etc, we are just much more aware of failures compared to the historic loss rates ... I'll bet that the 'system' itself is fairly robust, but you can't account for human error, or criminality in such a huge organisation. When in History could you get next-day delivery at nearing 100% from enormous distances away and many times across borders ... ??? Although I have run into a few frustrating & annoying delivery failures, when I compare it to historical services, the delivery services now are pretty amazing ! Just my opinion that our expectations are so incredibly high these days ... and whilst people love to complain, the vast majority of recipients quietly say nothing of their satisfaction. No. I don't work for a Delivery Service.
@alohamark3025

My experience is that 2% of the valuable guitars will arrive with a headstock break, assuming the manufacturer is Gibson, and the shipping company is Fedex or UPS. Handling of most packages is very rough, and unless it was packed very well and reinforced, the box will show tread marks and non-square corners. Most of the big retailers in the music business self-insure. Shipping damage is the cost of doing business.

That being said paying thousands of dollars extra to have a professional guitar Buster upper,,bust up your guitar...I just don't get it

Poor Joe Bonamassa, I lost all of my guitars and gear during the lockdown so I know how he feels....the crazy thing is even with the neck pickup that guitar is probably worth more than my entire arsenal and believe me everyone I loved my babies they were worthy.....the first amp I was ever given was a Fender Twin-Reverb (tweed) in 1984 by my uncle Wayne so yeah I had gear I'll cry over if I start listing here but, so you guys know I lost a 1974 Les Paul Custom that my PAPAW bought for me when I graduated in 1994 and a Marshall Jubilee Head I bought lucky as hell in a yard sale in Metamora Indiana in 98' I paid $300 for it from a church performer my god that head was just unreal I'll miss it forever, I cried for days after I lost my gear and babies so I just want to say this and Austin I'm sorry but, damn it someone needs to say it: to the loser piece of s*** who stole Joe's Tele--F*** You D*** Head choke on a fork! Whoever stole the Gibsons from Sweetwater and that's in Indiana where I live...F*** You pr***s choke too, around the early 90's the guitar player for my favorite rock n' roll Mötley Crüe Mick Mars got his guitars stolen and like they said on their Corabi album we hope you die🖕 and I still do! Then can you believe this s*** some goofy retarded scumbag stole Randy Rhoads' guitars and when they knew it was to high Fu***Ng profile ( these bastards THROW HIS INSTRUMENTS IN A TRASH DUMPSTER) who in the f*** does that WHO?....Mrs. Rhoads didn't deserve that disrespect or the stress she wakes up everyday without her boy and her only memories of him end up in the a DUMPSTER it's too much man. And the boys from Tyler Bryant and The Shakedown had their guitars stolen too and I've gotta say watching their their rig rundown (Premier Guitar) you could tell they were still just pissed off about it..yeah their rigs are just as awesome but, our babies man the time we put into 2 or 3 of them can't be replaced just like a motherf*****s teeth: If you've had your guitars stolen by a worthless waste of life just know man I truly hate it for you I really do! It's been hard on me because I'm alone and trying to even get one f****** guitar back in my hands has been a impossible task but, I'll get there.....so in closing Joe I hate it buddy I do ( huge fan ) by the way...Tyler damn that sucked for you man, to Sweetwater I know the loss I do, and to Mick Mars & Randy Rhoads you are my heroes I love you and your playing and I truly hate the lowlife who stole your babies gentlemen...and Mick, Mrs. Rhoads, Tyler, Joe they aren't the only celebrity's who have had their guitars clipped but, Joe should be the last.......because this isn't a ploy Austin he's panicky I can tell it's gone man Austin really?In closing I want to say one more thing I know the lowlife scumbag who stole my guitars and gear will never read this because this is Troglys domain and that means intelligence, investment, integrity and you scumbag will never come here because it's planets above you methed-out scumbag tweaker but, know this I know you've more than likely took my rig out of state because it isn't in Richmond Indiana non of it but, I'm still looking for my instruments and the degenerate who stole them from me......when I find the idiot responsible I'm not calling the police oh no.....I'm Gonna Handle This BullS*** Myself And I Can't Wait!!!!!!!
