On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Dr. Christopher Perrin spoke with author David Hicks about his upcoming book, "The Stones Cry Out!"
Broadly speaking, "The Stones Cry Out!" wrestles with the question, "What is real?" The realist is the person who knows the answer and strives to live within the real-not an imagined or theoretically constructed-world. The author shows how the biblical proto-myths in Genesis, although seemingly fabulous, offer a better account of reality than the flawed modern myths of reason, science, and the imagined self. The division between those who are attempting to live within what is real and those who imagine a reality that is either flawed or doesn’t exist explains much of the political, social, and moral dysfunction of our secularizing world.
"The Stones Cry Out!" is written in the style of books like Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, Montaigne’s Essays, and Pascal’s Pensées. These books each dip into an ocean of ideas inspired by a family of questions pertaining to the question, "What is the best way to live in the world we experience as real?" Each idea, or “stone” in the book’s governing metaphor, joins a chorus of voices that creates not only an argument, but a score, demonstrating how much reality is a harmony of ideas rooted in the biblical narrative.
