Well said about the development of supporting characters! Sanderson definitely gave himself the space to weave in some conflict and complexity in many of them. So Shallan and I have this thing in common where we constantly quip and make puns as a coping mechanism, and I feel like Sanderson really hit the nail on the head with her character. In this book in particular, I got the feeling that I could have a pun battle with Shallan and there really hasn't been another Book that has had that for me. Not that I've read, anyway. But I have this philosophy that if you laugh with people, it makes a bond between the two of you. Humor connects people, and because of that, Shallan is a character some people just latch on to. I also was listening to the audiobook on my first read, and I was by myself in my car. When it got to 'that' part I said "Get in there Kaladin" out loud. And then I realized that I was absolutely hooked. That this series is more than just a good read. It's something spectacular, something special.

I'm not sure if this scene was from Words of Radiance or the previous one, but one of many instances that really proved to me that this series was not like others in this genre was when Shallan was waiting to be received by Jasnah, and meeting a very handsome and charming missionary/priest. (Mild spoilers ahead) In any other fantasy story this would have ended up with Shallan and this mysterious person entering some sort of romantic relationship. But in this book - be prepared to be shocked

I think the most beautiful thing about Stormlight is how relatable the characters are and how vulnerable they are just like us, to me TWOK is the one that resonates with me the most because of Kaladin's journey becoming a leader in Bridge 4.
