The story of a special building in San Francisco's Japantown. Designed by renowned architect Julia Morgan as the Japantown YWCA, 1830 Sutter Street was financed and commissioned by Issei women for the community and opened in 1932.
During World War II internment, the building was used by the American Friends Service Committee and was the site of significant civil rights work.
1830 Sutter was won back by the Japanese-American community in the 1990s and is the long-standing home of Nihonmachi Little Friends preschool (www.nlfchildca...)
