In 1921, at the age of 60, Edith Dircksey Cowan became the first woman elected to an Australian Parliament. She was a trailblazer, helping to establish the Children’s Court, the King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women, and the movement to give all women the right to vote.
100 years after her election to parliament, her legacy still burns bright. Named in her honour, Edith Cowan University was the first, and remains the only Australian university to be named after a woman. To learn more about the life of Edith, please visit www.ecu.edu.au/about-ecu/welc...
