You got the context surrounding the trades wrong, especially the Leuer trade. The TL;DR was that they did that trade to avoid paying the luxury tax (but really to buy time to trade Gay). The Grizzlies entered the season over the luxury tax threshold and while there was some speculation they might actually pay the tax for that season, Pera bought the team right when the season started and wasn't interested in doing that (probably because of the amount of cash he had just put down on the team). At that point everyone knew someone had to go. They had already lost O.J. Mayo in free agency but needed to lose more. There was some debate from fans of Randolph vs Gay, but most agreed that Randolph was more important to the team. There was a third option: cap dump multiple role players, possibly including Tony Allen. But everyone knew this would leave them with a dangerously thin rotation, and it was only a stopgap measure. They wouldn't be able to retain all of the principal assets (Conley, Gasol, Randolph, and Gay) for more than a year or two longer even if they dumped everyone else. So the team set about trying to move Gay, but seemed to find very few suitors willing to pay any value for him. Gay was on a large contract, his shooting had regressed badly from his first few seasons (possibly due to an eye condition that he didn't know about at the time), and this was right at the time when analytics were starting to take over and de-prioritize the mid-range shots that he tended to favor. And reportedly the FO also believed they were hampered by a lack of leverage. Everyone knew they were over the tax and had to deal one of their key players, and used this against the team in negotiations. So the FO decided to try to alter that dynamic by getting under the tax without trading Gay. The problem though was that there was only one team with cap space to bail them out: the cavs. And the Cavs abused this leverage. The Grizzlies dumped valuable role players Speights and Ellington, but more importantly, they sent over a pick that was protected in a way I've never seen before. in 2015 and 2016 it was protected 1-6 (good for Grizz, totally normal) AND 15-30 (Good for Cavs, gives them more chances at acquiring a higher pick, totally NOT NORMAL). They did this to buy time for a Gay trade, to change the posture so that they didn't have to trade him at all if they didn't find an offer they liked. But then they went and traded him anyway, for a much worse return than they gave away in the Leuer trade. And to make matters worse, the fact that this pick wasn't guaranteed to convey for several years, complicated things in 14-15 when they felt they were one piece away. They ended up trading a 2019 protected pick to the Celtics for Jeff Green. If that trade to the Cavs had simply been an unprotected 1st in 2015, then the Green trade could have been for a 2017 1st, which would have been a later 1st, not worth that much. Instead, the Grizzlies fell apart before they conveyed that pick to BOS, and now are in danger of giving over a decent pick next year or a completely unprotected pick in 2021, during a rebuild.

Noah, Hibbert, Gasol, Duncan, Dwight, Ibaka (pretty much played Perkin's role), Bogut, DJ, Horford, Tyson Chandler, Asik, Lopez twins. These guys made it fearful for anyone to drive in and were mobile enough to bother mid-range shots consistently, very reminiscent of 90's defense. This mini era of respectable big men in the paint 09' - 13' may primarily be the indirect cause to the quick transition and evolution of the fast ball movement, run and gun 3pt playstyle we see today which both championship Spurs and GSW were the first to perfectly execute and master, which is now being emulated by almost every single team this era.

You drop that 2013 Grizzlies in the 90s and I'm sure they would win a championship even with Jordan around. The pace they played in 2013 was the slowest, but you compare that pace to the one 90s teams played and the 2013 Grizzlies would have one of the fastest paces if they played in the 90s. Combine that with their stellar defense, and they would have the chance to become a dynasty if they played in the 1990s.

the following year: the Heat will amnesty Miller then he will sign with the Grizzlies. This meant that the Heat are practically paying Miller to help the Grizzlies eliminate rival Spurs. Before all that, the Grizzlies also helped Miami to acquire Andersen through the rights to Ricky Sanchez trade (now a name of a podcast). In that deal, Miami gave up Dexter Pittman for the said rights, freeing up a roster space to acquire Birdman. This helped the Heat win the title. They may not have won without Birdman. Did it help the Grizzlies in any way? No. This will be followed, in the following years, with deals like Chalmers and Birman to Grizzlies, Heat assistant Fizdale becoming head coach of the Grizzlies. James Ennis to Grizzlies. I'm just throwing it out there: The Heat and the Grizzlies have been colluding for years but the NBA has turned a blind eye on it.
