This is some of the best footage I've seen on the Blackmagic pocket 4k. I saw you used the sigma 18-35 with a metabones a while back and I have to ask, Do you prefer that lens or the Lumix 12-35mm you used on this shoot?
@storylitfilms
Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Will! Means a lot bro!! Yeah I bounce back and forth between the two. I love the sigma 18-35 for shallow focus and low light situations, I know a lot of people knock it for being clinical but to me it has a lot of characteristics I love, it's sharp, its got a nice bokeh, and its fast. If I had to pick between the two I'd go sigma, but the fact the lumix is native to the pocket 4k and packs such a punch I find myself using it more often then not.

@@QuentinAnthonyAnderson Yeah! Hahaha, it's a great lens, it definitely has some downsides: chromatic aberration at 12mm, no manual aperture control, falls a bit flat. But in terms of bang for buck lens, it's well worth the money. I have it on my pk4 85% of the time. I think you will grow to love it the more you use it!

I think the 4k pairs really nice with PL glass but there can be a crop factor sometimes. Thank you so much! I think I had about 12-15 nodes. Normally I’m around 6-8 nodes. But I did a few power windows on this grade to fine tune things. Normally I do a Rec 709 color space transform, then base correct with just simple exposure and color in the wheels or curves. Then I built a creative look from how I remember the fair growing up. I definitely leaned into a swampy green look. And added a “glow” plug in. I’ll have to look at the node structure when I’m back in the office though

Thank you very much!! Yeah great eye, pro mist 1/4, I normally don't use any filters other than ND's and Grad ND's but sometimes the pro mist feels right story wise and it definitely felt right here. When I think of Fair's I think of a bit more of a grungy, gritty environment but also a fun glowing environment. The pro mist helped get that soft glow in camera to where I didn't have to tinker with it in post. That's great about the 6k Pro! How are you liking it? I've shot on it a few times and really like the 35mm sensor compared to the Pocket 4k. I've always loved the S35 sensors best, even over large format.

Thank you! This is recorded on just a rose ntg3 and a zoom h4n. The zoom is definitely dated but the rose ntg3 is one of my favorite sounding mics

I cant wait for the final movie to come out! :D As a fellow BMPCC4K shooter, im always very glad, when I found a professional cinematic, narrative work with this camera, that actually looks like a movie. The interrogation scene really captures the feeling and style of the recent Batman movie. It would be great to see how you work on these movies, I hope there will be some BTS videos about your work with this camera :D Btw what kind of lights did you use for this movie?

Thank you Larion! Very grateful for your kind words! Means a lot! As for your questions: I wish this were a feature but it was more of a "shoot a few scenes, make a trailer cut and see if it draws interest to do a full feature" So as it stands know I have a few scenes shot but not a project in its entirety. The concept is based off of what inspired the movie "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" I'm so glad to hear about the batman connection! That and "High and Low" were my two inspirations in terms of look and style! I should've taken BTS videos but didn't I'm trying to be better about that this year! For lighting this I used all quasars, just the regular kind with 3 settings: 5600, 4500, 3200. I stuck around 4500 for most of it as I wanted a more florescent style look.

You should totally make a longer version. It doesn't have to be a feature but at least a 10-20 minute film. 1 minute is just a tease lol (but a great one at that ;)

Great work, this kind of content really inspires me! I've got an FX3 with two A7IV's and all the lenses and lighting I need and I want to do small projects just like this but I need people to get in front of my camera! I've been running Craigslist ads for months now but I can't get people to work with me. Any suggestions?

Hello Zaria! Thank you for your kind words, truly means a lot to me that you'd take the time to share this comment! And that's a great camera package and I'm sure your lighting compliments it great! Yeah it can be really really tough to find and coordinate with actors on low to no budget narrative projects. I run into that a lot. Often times I've met actors in my area and just keep them in mind for various projects and then link up with them when the time is right. The best way I've found to network is: 1) Pray, I pray every day, 2) Get on set as often as possible, 3) Aim for smaller projects that are less demanding of a persons schedule, 4) Instead of craigslist go on Facebook to local filmmaking groups and post the need there, 5) If you strike out with actors pool from non actors, use family, friends, anyone that blinks or breathes hahaha. This was done a lot in the Italian Neo realist movement and those have some of the best films in cinema history, Bicycle thieves is one of my personal faves.

@@storylitfilms Thank you very much for the great advise! I will definitely try your suggestions. It's very interesting plus somewhat coincidental that you mentioned prayer as #1 because I recently re-established my relationship with GOD after MANY years of confusion and inner turmoil (being in an actual war can do that to you). I will get on my knees tonight for sure. Keep up the great work and if you ever find yourself in West Texas, please look me up! "Z" 🙏🎬🎥

Thank you so much Ryan! The vast bulk of this was shot on the lumix panosonic 18-35mm 2.8 v1. I use that lens for 90% of what I shoot on the bmpcc4k. Then for the interior cell shots I used the 65mm atlas anamorphic. I had to have a special adapter for it though, I believe it was an slr magic PL to MFT. It also had crop.
