Hello from this elated new subscriber! This video is a game-changer. I’m a fan of the Violette FR Bisou blushes, but one of them never worked well with my light-neutral-golden skin. Now I know that the vividness + transparency was fighting with my skin tone, and once I layered in a more opaque & less vivid cream blush, it all fell into place. Magic (well, no- science)!

When you put on the RMS pinky bronzer, I had my “ah ha!” moment. That color is the mid tone that often naturally appears in youthful skin. As we age, a lot of us lose those beautiful mid toned pinks from our skin that signal to the eye “health and youth.” That’s probably one reason makeup starts to look clowny on both mature and very fair skin unless done carefully. This is the answer. Thank you!…and also, I must have that bronzer now. 😂

Oh interesting! I have been doing something like this for years without realizing what it’s called. I usually mix a little liquid blush with foundation and put that down as a first layer before concentrating the pure color in the center. For me, it takes the guess work out of finding the intermediate shade if I just literally mix with something that’s already my skin color.

I discovered you several days ago, and realized instantly our skin tones are very similar. AND, from your red lip video, I finally understand why I have a full collection of red lipsticks that I have never been able to make work! I buy a new tube every December, hoping this will be the year that I finally get it right. Now I know why I add a layer of coral over the red before I leave the house!! As for liquid blushes, I've been scared of the super opaque (Rare Beauty) products, so I've gone with softer products....which look see through on my cheeks. I really did decide that I'm a powder blush person, and just stopped trying. The see-through blush look made my makeup look unfinished, like I missed a step, and now I know that I did!! I know quite a bit about color theory (my son and his wife are artists), but never thought about how the opacity of a product would read on my skin. Sorry for writing so much, but my mind is blown, and I feel like I can deal with the makeup issues I've been struggling with. If you wrote a book on this subject, or held classes, I would pay to learn more about this!!

RE your comment about the lipsticks: I so relate. After watching Kackie's videos, I finally understood that my purplish lip color has to be taken into consideration when buying lip color. I'm no longer buying the colors I like as shown in the swatches, because they will ALWAYS look very different on my lips, unless they are super saturated (another concept I learned from Kackie). But I never like the super intense saturated lip colors on me, which always wind up looking garish. Thanks again to Kackie, I now understand it's because they are high contrast and my face is not!! In fact, I'm moving away from a decades-long obsession with warm peach lip colors, which often turn brown on me (duh), to cool shades, and I'm really loving how they look!

Such great timing. Today i bought a Gucci blush in Intense Plum on sale. I am fair with pink undertones and it was, lets say a little high contrast (halloween) for me. When I got home it was strait to the makeup table and I mixed it with Valentino 08 (pinky peach) and the difference was outstanding. In the past I would have counted it as a waste of money and sold it, but because of you I experimented and it worked! So happy that it is actually a look that will work for me now and not just landfill. Going to go through my other makeup that has never looked quite right and do some more experimenting with the knowledge you are giving me. 72 yrs young and having more fun with makeup than when I was 25.

Yessss. Speaking as a pale neutral olive on whom sheer lilac color products turn a nauseating shade of orange, and skin tints go weird. I wish I could have the hours and money back that I've wasted, researching how sheer XYZ product is before I buy it and end up disappointed. I wish you, Kackie, with the correct terminology and credibility, would do a video suggesting to us - and brands - how online swatches could be soooo much better. If only to reduce returns and environmental waste, and boost buyer satisfaction. I wish they'd stop photographing thick layers of a sheer product as if we could guess how it would look if worn in a normal amount. Not to mention a ban on AI/photoshopping. And for brands to stop enthusing about sheerness as if it's objectively an advantage, instead of a characteristic that becomes useful or unusable, depending on the user's intent. I feel better now.

I consider myself fairly well versed in color theory, but I have to say I’m not sure I understood the problem that you were solving. I mean, I can see the difference, but I wasn’t clear why the ‘hollow’ side was in need of a ‘fix.’ I’m really enjoying these demonstrations, so this isn’t meant to be a negative comment, just sincere confusion as to what was ‘wrong’ in the first place. Perhaps because I personally prefer sheer makeup to opaque I can’t see the deficit in seeing your freckles, but perhaps I’m just misunderstanding the premise. I also am a former hairdresser/colorist, so I guess I just saw the blush and gloss as similar to a final gloss/glaze after hair color application and therefore weren’t meant to be opaque? Curious to hear your thoughts. xoxo

I had a similar reaction. I could see the difference in the two sides of the lip color, but I could not see any difference in the blush sides--they looked exactly the same. Quick question! What about simply using a product (in this case a blush/bronzer) that has a bit more opacity? Would that solve or rather prevent the hollowness problem? Obviously, you would have to choose a colour (with saturation and contrast levels) and formula that you like and know will suit your skin tone and your overall preferences... And if you want to use a sheer blush/bronzer but have skin pigmentation, wouldn't it make sense to use a complexion product that provides more coverage and hides that pigmentation?
@kackie
3 ай бұрын
Great question! To the first question, of course! To find a product that does it all is the ideal. Like I said, in practice this wouldn't be every step in your routine. It's primarily a troubleshooting technique, and I refer to it a lot in my other videos so folks asked me to demo it in a dedicated video. To your second question, actually no, because as you saw, the sheer product mixes with the complexion product and becomes milky and unnatural looking. Filling the color is the best way to prevent that, and a more opaque complexion product would actually make it worse!

And trying to find the perfect products shade, the perfect opacity or the perfect saturation for me (without spending half a fortune) is hard because the market for make up is so huge and I wouldn't even know where to start looking.

I appreciate you taking your genius and distilling it down to a simple and understandable level for those of us that are color challenged! But also, I love translucent blush and I'm always looking for that 😅. Please don'tuse your influence to encourage the makeup companies to stop making it! I suffered through the full coverage tanned-warm-matte-insanity craze and finally us sheer and dewey loving gals are getting some options. I really want them to continue! I'm 46, but i have always preferred sheer and dewey, light. But it wasn't always available.

I feel this exact same way! Some of us like a translucent blush etc. I love that Milk blush stick! The older I’ve gotten, the more I appreciate the makeup choices now more than ever!

Could this concept be applied to covering redness from rosacea? I know it’s a stretch but I had to ask.

I have the same question! I’m very fair but have rosacea/red cheeks. My lips are also very pigmented (red) so it’s a lot to contend with 😂

Oh my goodness! That is such a big difference! My way to fix filling in the color gap has always been to have a light tan …..because everything looks better on my face with a light tan. But now I don’t want to have to get a tan and I don’t want to use My time to spread on a fake tan, but I would like my make up to look good. Thank you!

As a person who sucks at seeing color and everything looks the same 😢, I would appreciate a video on how to see colors (cool, warm, cool compared to, warm compared) and how to actually work colors together. Idk cuz like how do you differentiate color and see what goes along with each other???

Am I the only one who thinks this is over-complicating things? I don’t think you need an art degree to understand that if you swatch a crayon on white paper it’s going to look different than if you swatch it on peach, or any other color that’s going to show through. Got 1/3 of the way through this before I realized that’s essentially what she’s saying

Hi Kackie. I would love to know what you would suggest for someone with a ruddy complexion. So parts of the face are fair, and the majority of the cheek and jaw is ruddy. Which bit of skin would you use to colour find with?

Simple and effective and, yes, the more opaque side will photograph better. If I'm not highlighting myself to beacon life on another planet, I'm a fan of a deathly ill Edwardian look for my own complexion so filling translucency isn't something I'd necessarily do unless I'm trying to plump up a feature ... Hollow old broad cheeks come to mind. 🤔 So many more thoughts. Love this video series so much. Thought-provoking beauty content is ❤.

This is so exciting to see because I accidentally discovered this phenomenon recently when I realized that I was better in neutral/warm colors than cool, and that all of my lipsticks, including corals and peaches, were looking like a vagina lips purple, mauve color, which I now hate. After buying a half dozen new lipsticks and failing to overcome the purple/mauve, I finally realized that my natural lip color, though dull, is strong and powers through. So, I started trying to find a neutral to put on first like complete opaque nude to act as a base. And now you've confirmed that I'm on the right track!

Could you share what brand and color you are using as a base for your lip colors, please? I have the same issue going on.

I know color seasons are more so used in fashion but can you explain thw science behind the seasons or how it applies to makeup? Like obviously we can wear whatever we want but sometimes its nice to know what colors work with our natural coloring for effortless looks (even if you wear olive eyeshadow, for the right undertone that will still look effortless). I am loving this series of videos
