I envy you guys in the North in a way. You have 9 months of winter to work on your cars. In Georgia we only have a month or so. Love Fieros though and what you have done to yours.

So this was a base model Fiero to start with, not a Formula? I've got an '88 Formula that I intend to do an engine swap on, but haven't settled on which engine to put in. I'm actually leaning towards a turbo Ecotec, as they're lighter than the 3800, and I can get a 6-speed manual to go with it. They're rather expensive though, so a 3800 or LS4 swap is still on the table. Before I do that, I gotta address some rust issues with the frame first - Fieros from northern states (I'm in Michigan) tend to get rusty above the rear wheels. And then a link for your friend with an LNF-swapped Fiero pops up at the end. :-)

Fieros - soo much fun and the sky is the limit to the swap options!! Mine was an 84 chassis, with mostly 87 body panels. They were both in pretty rough shape, it took them both apart and made one.

E85 what adjustments did you have to make? Fuel lines? Fuel tank?
@Toys4Life
3 жыл бұрын
I get asked this a lot so here is a bit of info. *What fuel pump are you running? Deatsche Werks DW 300 Had it since 2013 NO issues *What injectors? Siemens Deka 60 lb - from ZZP. Dont buy from sketchy sources i hear there are fakes on ebay... *Do you have to run new fuel lines rated for E85? NO. Just replace all rubber hose with line rated for ethanol. Available at auto parts store - says rating on the exterior of hose itself *Any concerns with E85 in the Fiero fuel tank? My tank was pretty clean. Some are rusty and dirty. I replaced my fuel filter (used a tahoe flex fuel filter) in 1 month and cut it open to see if it was packed with "junk" from the tank cause I read it would be. It was fine. Good idea to do anyway. If it is dirty, Keep changing monthly until it cleans up. You don't want a clogged fuel filter which equals clogged fuel delivery

I cut the trunk a little bit to make some room for the exhaust. I might have lost about 15% of the capacity, but the way I did it I really don't even notice I still use the trunk cuz I always have.

@@Toys4Life Also, why no flex fuel sensor? Grab one out of a junkyard of a GM truck/car. Edit: ZZP makes a kit for the 3800. But you can easily just fmgrab a used flex fuel sensor or even a new one meant for a GM for quite cheap, I don't remember the part number off my head. And they work fine with HP Tuners, so you won't have to manually adjust the tune, it reads your ethanol content in real time and adjusts your map on the fly.
@dylanh4657

@@Toys4Life Amazon has it for 66 dollars. ACDelco 13577429 GM Original Equipment Flex Fuel Sensor Actually. I didn't realize the 3800 never got flex fuel stock, so you wouldn't be able to simply use the stock PCM or a PCM off a newer model that had it. I use a GM flex fuel sensor on my Miata with a Nissan SR20, but I have an aftermarket ECU. So it looks like the ZZP kit or a solution based around how they did it, would be best. Then you can keep stock ECU with HP tuners. Edit again. Apparently even the ZZP kit won't work on the 3800. You would need to go megasquirt or something. Also, it looks like you are running automatic and not a 5 speed box. So if you ditched the factory ECU you would lose whatever transmission PCM tuning they have for that thing, if that even matters or makes much difference. I would've went getrag/Muncie 5 speed or whatever manual they mate behind a LS4.
@Toys4Life

LS4 grand prix got the 4t65e-hd - which is what I have. I didn't want the manual in this car for 2 reasons. It launches much harder for drag racing and 0-60 races on the street with the auto. Also, my SC C5 is a 6 speed manual so I get my manual transmission fix there. I run the C5 on E33 and the Fiero on E60 - E85. I am pretty quick at testing the content and loading the appropriate tune. Thanks for all the comments & have a great day!

@@charlesprice7608 Ha. O.K. Now you put a quarter in me (:-) I agree and have had numerous original Vw Bugs back when you could still find them in MN back in the late 80's. My first car was a 67 vw bug. I agree they power thru snow much better than front engine rear wheel drive cars. I also have driven fieros thru multiple winters and it is the same deal but not as good because fieros typically had much wider "slipprier in snow" tires. I do know of a few people that did the old mega spin out on slippery winter roads which can be dangerous.
