Great story on the recording of this song from Charmaine Sylvers: Lead singer Angie was pregnant and put on bed rest before the track was finished. Leon brought Charmaine (who had left the group a few years earlier) in to finish the vocals. You can barely tell (if at all), they sound so much alike. At 2:58 Angie comes in with "the unfinished letter gave us a second chance at love" at which point (at 3:06) Charmaine takes over and finishes the song. Pure vocal magic!

People always comparing them to the jacksons, but honestly musically, instrumentally and creativity I think the Debarge would be a better comparison. Much like the Debarge all of the Sylvers could sing and write and most played instruments whereas with the Jacksons only one name really comes to mind and that’s Michael and Janet of course.

Leon worked with the best artists, but by 1984, his hits dried up an became lesser in demand by the late 1980s in favor of Jimy Jam/Terry Lewis and Babyface/LA Reid (Leon had worked with Jam and Lewis in 82", before they were dismissed from The Time)
