18 men on stage and the only woman among them is performing a merely technical task? OK, maybe in that competition the male pianists were the best ones. But why an only-men jury? There is something utterly wrong there.

you demean the translator by using the word 'merely' ... maybe you're not the best person to comment on this subject
@haldelm5194
Жыл бұрын
@@Marcel_Audubon In the English language the adverb "merely" is synonymous of "only". My sentence is factually perfect, both linguistically and in terms of content: the only woman there is performing only (I used "merely" not to repeat "only") a technical task. While being an interpreter is a highly skilled job, in that specifit context the interpreter is performing an accessory job: without the translator, the competition would have existed anyway, but without pianists or jury, there would not be competition tout court. Your comment only=merely shows two things: (i) your English needs improvement and (ii) you either disagree with my wish to have more women in the jury (which is legitimate) or you did not get my point (which is sad).

@@Marcel_Audubon It is absurd that on a comment of mine wishing more equality and inclusion for women, you keep repeating yourself about the usage of the adverb “merely”. I suppose you are unable to understand the point. In which case I wish you a world without women, or one where women merely clean the toilets, makes beds, or do menial tasks. For myself, I wish a world where all members of the jury are women and all laureates are women too, while the only man is there to be the interpreter. Good day to you!
