@@mojojojo1529 That's exactly what I'm saying. Everyone shits on clicky switches, when they have many nice features leaving sound aside. They're tactile (which for most applications is a good thing) and they are better for typing. Kailh box switches are one of the most smooth switches in all of their versions stock, and that was quite the feat on 2020. Saying that only new people like clicky switches is so wrong on this video, literally the mechanical keyboard scene was formed by clicky switches from vintage keyboards. The fad of clacky linears is the "new scene" and literally people like them for bottoming out and hearing the clack, which in my opinion kills all the purpose to getting a mechanical keyboard. Also to think that all switches need to be lubed to work, cmon.

One thing I don't see people mention a lot to why some choose clicky switches, especially these box clickies, is the type of tactility. Most tactile these days have a giant tactile bump and virtually zero pre-travel (hp, u4t...), which makes the whole key press feel, imo, dull. Clicky switches however, has a sharp tactile bump that makes it feels like typing on a high quality retractable pen, much more satisfying to me (Plus, people who complain about clickies sound obnoxious probably have never heard of some good, vintage clickies like Alps blues)

I guess if gaming is what you mainly use keyboards for, you’ll have a strong preference for light, linear switches. But that doesn’t excuse the fact that this video comes from a place of fundamentally misunderstanding the purpose of heavy swtiches. Heavy switches are heavy to discourage you from bottoming out; you’re not supposed to exhaust yourself trying to press them all the way, that’s their whole point. It helps a subset of people, who type with more force, type faster-by discouraging them from bottoming out like they would with a lighter switch. Not bottoming out switches makes everyone type faster in general, not to mention how subpar bottoming out feels. If you find yourself always bottoming your switches out-you might find that you’re a faster typist on stiffer switches.

I am of the complete opposite opinion about clicky switches. To me, if a switch doesn't click, it doesn't deserve to exist. I touched a clicky switch once in like 2010, that keyboard immedeately followed me back home, and there has been no turning back ever since. Tactile is... Fine, I guess? But mostly just dissapointing and unsatisfactory. Linear, however, is just weird and pointless to me. I can't fathom how anybody would like them. And because they have so little resistance without any feedback, I get worn out and sore even faster using linear switches, as I tend to slam them down until they hit the bottom way too hard... Which ironically also sounds worse (if not louder as well), as compared to tactile or clicky switches.

Generally speaking, they have similar tactility. However, there are particular switches with "zero pretravel" or have the "tactile bump at the top of the switch" that are much more tactile than any clicky switch on the market. Box Navy switches are significantly heavier than most switches on the market. If you ever find that it's too heavy, I'd suggest getting some Boba U4T or some Durock T1 switches - they have excellent tactility for people who want a crisp typing sound.
@ReclaimerTyphoon

As with most things, you simply can't accurately review something you haven't acclimated to. It's like saying a katana is too heavy... because you've only ever wielded a wooden spoon. Fatigue is relative, and it's only a problem if you can't make up your mind/switch keyboards frequently/haven't given yourself enough time to get used to the forces. Once you do, you don't notice it unless you go back and play around with linears again, etc. If you ask me, it doesn't make sense for a button/switch/anything to actuate *before* tactile feedback. I don't think I'll ever go back to linear switches. I should feel something just before, or at the point of actuation/the tactile feedback should be inherently and consistently tied to actuation. And the benefit of having these very heavy spring forces is the supreme tactility they enable. In most places that have constant typing, headphones are usually worn by most - it's a non-issue. And if you're just sitting around and typing while you're with your friends... don't. Do something productive/together. And if you're gaming together, then you're all wearing headphones anyway. If you're within earshot of someone trying to sleep, then you should probably be asleep, too - or you're in a school dorm environment, and they should be sleeping with earplugs to begin with. Also, "people who bottom out their switches" isn't a factor here (and, arguably, it's not a thing - people bottom out because they have to/because the switch forces them into it - it's not a lifestyle choice/characteristic of a person). Because of the spring forces, you are less likely to bottom out, and if/when you do, it's with much less force that you would a linear switch, because the spring is pushing back against you. In the end, if you acclimate to Box Navy, it's actually *less* impact going into your fingers.

I wanna know how many people REALLY find the sound of clikies THAT annoying, outside of custom KB snobs. It's barely louder than a mouse click. Seriously, I wanna get these people in a room full of Model Ms, Unicomp Classics and typewriters.

Clickies will always be annoying except for the person using it. Even if you like clickies, hearing someone use it will get on your nerves eventually.

The supposed "you'll lose your friends" trope of this hobby is a bit tiring. Pardon my age, but typewriters, especially electric ones, were much MUCH louder to use.

I used to do 110wpm on a keytronics keyboard. Your fingers do not get tired. That is just BS. I would write COBOL and C on using it during Y2K. The new style suck in comparison. I have even had expensive Microsoft and Logitech like MX Keys.

I've written C with 150g springs on a dare. I'd rather have heavy and deliberate key presses that give me feedback. I dont know how people's fingers get tired from typing.
