On the question at the end of the video: there are two things the Voltra would need to do to get into the home gym functional trainer conversation. First and foremost, they would need to figure out how to sync two units so they can work together in two arm exercises without noticeable jerkiness. Then they need to figure out how to get the price point for two units much lower. The devices provide additional value, but two units would cost around $4000. For that, you can get an Arcadia and have enough left over to get a pretty stellar rack … or belt squat system … or, well you get the picture. Knock $300 off the cost of each unit and then maybe people will start to see the value as a high end home gym functional trainer.

There's a few reviews on the Titan on UT. I picked up one before covid at $179. For that cost you don't get: thick steel, quality pulleys, and really low quality welds and no adapters for olympic plates, nor etched numbering on the carriage post which is 1.5" x 1.5" tubing. Had I know about the BOS FT, I think I would have gone with them. I recommend getting the tall version.
@albertfischer8804
6 ай бұрын
@@prtmeister9680We're talking about two different pieces of equipment. The functional trainer actually has weight horns for olympic plates. You can't use "standard" plates on it. You are talking about the short cable tower. I have the tall version of that. You are correct in saying that both the short and tall cable towers are setup for standard plates not olympic. The functional trainer retails for about $1000 or slightly above depending on if you catch a sale or not.

The voltra is super cool. At the end of the day though, I think I’ll always prefer non electronic equipment- don’t have to charge it; if the company goes under, I’ll typically have an easy enough time making my own repairs (like replacing a pulley); and things like calibration aren’t a concern so resistance is going to stay consistent potentially decades into its lifetime. Not saying high tech stuff can’t do some of the above, but mass is mass. Thanks for the good review!

Can you do a review on the SLIM PROFILE WALL-MOUNTED FUNCTIONAL TRAINER SINGLE COLUMN 2000? This is supposed to be wall mounted unit, only 4” off the wall. I think it's a very cool option to have such a thin functional trainer attached to the wall. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of the poly system from the 18 00s. With some of these smart devices coming out where you can change the eccentric and concentric. Once they get down into the $500 range and still do more than 100 lb, it becomes a difficult option to buy a full functional trainer unless you really need it for your gym. That said, this design in such a small space could easily be added to the back or the front of something like a Smith machine with the center part able to do normal barbell related movements. The other critique I would give personally is that it didn't have enough band peg places... Or the ability to add bands to the weight stack itself. Both are pretty easy fixes but would have really been a perfect place to anchor a couple more features with very little effort.

Great review! I'm from Germany and I really envy you us guys regarding the options for Homegym equipment you've got! In Europe we don't have nearly that much equipment to choose from, so building a homegym that is as kitted out as one of yours is able to be is really hard. For me, that functional trainer would be a great option and if I would be able to buy one, I would definitely do it!! The slim form factor would be PERFECT for my space BUT the listing in pounds is just not relevant for everyone else in the world, so I really would love to see more companies opening to international markets and having an option with kg increments. I don't think it would be that hard to produce the weight stacks in kg, so I don't understand why so few companies are actually doing it And that bothers me with a lot of US based companys

I bought the Torque F9 used, and it has a small footprint, but this one definitely is king for slim functional trainers. As for the price, not sure as in Canada Torque gets pricey. Some local dealer wanted to charge me almost 5000$CAD for the Torque F9 new with bench and I found one on FB Marketplace for 2000. Price aside if this gives the same experience as Torque F9 and takes even less space then that l, I think its worth the price. The stack stickers I could care less about for myself. I think if anything it helps you not obsess about how much weight you’re using and just focus on the actual exercise. When logging just add a zero to your log. Older Cybex stuff has the numbers the same way. By the way TKStar out of Newburgh, NY sells replacement parts for most commercial brands so you could maybe source a similar size pulley wheel in aluminum. He also makes some UNREAL commercial equipment and handles.

Coop, i think the reason they number the weights instead of putting an actual weight number on the plates is because the pulleys multiply the weight differently in different configurations. The stacks at my gym have inaccurate weight numbers because of this and it's even more annoying that the numbers are misleading than if there were no weights at all.

I include a strain gauge in my gym kit and have tested a bunch of cable machines in the area, and there are some which are as low as 55% of stated weight and at my local gym these are 10% over stated weight. If you are starting with nothing at all, here are the comparisons between Voltra I and Anker 7. Voltra I: For $2099, you get 200 lbs resistance with very fine increments and multiple modes like resistance band, eccentric, damper, or chain. No mount, No handle, No rack for attaching it to the wall, No floor plate. To use it, you need to mount it to something. $39 for a basic one-handed handle, $499 for a wall-mounted mini-rack, and $99 for a pair of rack mounts totaling just under $2750. You can opt for the travel platform instead of the mini-rack and rack mounts, bringing that down to just under $2350 total, but you lose out on vertical cable exercises in exchange for more traditional dumbell-style freeweight exercises. If you want a two-handed barbell style handle, it will cost an extra $199 for a grand total of $2950 for the mini-rack and mounts or $2550 for the platform. Anker 7: For ~$1699 total, you get 2 stacks of 200 lbs resistance EACH with adjustable increments of 10 lbs per plate for the first 5 plates and 15 lbs per plate for the next 10, a wall-mounted rack with 2 vertically adjustable cable pulleys, 4 one-handed handles (2 short strap and 2 long strap), a leg boot for leg exercises, and hanging hooks for the accessories

6:49 while this gets noted in practically any review involving equipment with a pulley, isn't the distinction not about the material of the wheel but about a bushing or bearing type? Usually nylon wheels are not on sealed ball bearings for higher efficiency pulleys, since the intention is making these light and inexpensive, but you could have aluminum wheels and a significant range of efficiency based on the parts not seen, somewhere around a 70-95% efficiency range in most rope access pulleys I have seen.
