Dear Supporters of The Thirteen,
These are extraordinary times. I hope that you were able to join us at The Thirteen’s four 2019-20 season concerts: Monteverdi: The Lost Vespers, Tallis Through The Looking-Glass, Silent Night Starry Night, and Mystic. We’re grateful for you, our audience, one of whom recently wrote: “In a city that is rich with music, The Thirteen is the best thing to come along in a long time.” Another audience member wrote: “So amazing! Thank you for offering a student rate to make it affordable … [for] my high school daughter."
We hope and plan to perform the May 2020 world premiere of Scott Ordway’s chamber opera, The Outer Edge of Youth, for you in just seven weeks. However, the Covid-19 pandemic may force us to substantially modify or cancel this event. We are closely monitoring the recommendations of public health authorities, and as soon as we have any definite information, we will let you know.
However, the Board’s commitment to our professional musicians is strong: in the event of cancellation or modification, we will still pay our musicians 100% of their agreed compensation for the May concerts.
To make that commitment possible, all of my fellow board members have joined in a pledge to give an additional $27,300 on top of their already generous giving this season, while maintaining or increasing their giving for our upcoming 2020-2021 season. We believe in supporting The Thirteen and our musicians.
But we will need your help to continue to care for our musicians and provide organizational resiliency in this unprecedented time of crisis. Please consider donating or increasing your donation to The Thirteen this season. To donate, please visit www.TheThirteenChoir.org or send a check to: The Thirteen | P.O. Box 32065 | Washington, DC, 20007
After the current health crisis has passed, we look forward to seeing you at our 2020-21 season concerts, in which we’ll dive again into the music of Monteverdi, perform a holiday Evening of Readings and Carols, a concert of works by women composers, and a staged - meaning fully memorized and acted out - production of J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion.
With sincere gratitude for your continued support,
Penny Clark
