I know some medical professionals dont believe in it but I feel like its important to note that one shouldn't combine st. john's wort with SSRI's and many other meds/supplements that increase serotonin levels because of the risk of serotonin syndrome which apparently can be fatal. At least from what Ive read, dont know how common serotonin syndrome is.
@BeingBetter
Жыл бұрын
Yes that's true, and it can occur from combining any serotonin acting substances together. Serotonin syndrome is on a spectrum: it can be mild or can be life threatening. I've had moderate serotonin syndrome before from combining too many supplements and meds.

I like this theme also because I don't think I ever have been severely depressed, but the blues and anxiety that come and go can be debilitating even when they're mild. So natural solutions that help to stimulate the body and don't have collateral effects (cold showers, walks, exercise, but also diet) are oh so valuable!! It also helps when trying to help someone who's low. Feeding someone rich "antidepressant" foods like those is a such loving demonstration of care!

I have taken everything from prescription antidepressants, all had to many side effects or made depression worse. Tried every type of natural supplements, the only thing that ever helped depression was fish oil and L tyrosine with B 6. In my veiw the best thing for depression is sunlight, exercise, and massage.

Dr. Tracey, assuming the thumbnail, I was affraid you are going to recommend cannabis, which is toxic for depresion. CBD might help with mild symptoms but Tetrahydrocannabinol inuces psychosis and won't be helpfull at all. Blessings

This seems very irresponsible to not even talk about dosage and the fact that natural sources can vary widely in amounts of active substance. One of the reasons why medicines are _derived from_ plants instead of using the plants themselves is controlled dosage. If you just go out into the wild and start picking and eating herbs, you have no idea how much of the active compounds you are ingesting - underdosing or overdosing is likely. For that, I must report this video for being potentially harmful, and I'll also report it for being misleading because of the click-bait thumbnail image. Do better.

Hachiya Persimmons ...I have a huge tree. Let them get very soft and ripe, wash them off and the put in the freezer. I cut half of frozen one and put in blender with half an avocado, cocoa powder, chia, and some greens. ...this will cure your depression.

I am glad you avoid talking about psychedelics and THC/Weed. My partner and I get in heated debates about the benefits and disadvantages of both. I am more on the side of more study needs to be done before it is promoted as a way to treat mental health. But my partner refuses to agree on that and states it helps them. Though I have shown then case study after case study where TCH actually increases depression and anxiety. Though when you are high you feel better afterwards your depression and anxiety actually increases. As for psychedelics I have shown numbers of case studies that show using them for trauma like C-PTSD/PTSD, personality disorders, bipolar disorder 1 and 2 can actually make things worse both from the psychedelics when they get you high as well as a lasting effect afterwards. But still the debate between this goes on with her. Also there was an good case study of how cocaine use actually increased BPD/NPD traits in people.

I love those herbs and many others for depression... i get all of mine from Tria Alchemy since they work faster and better than others in my experience. I believe potency and active constituents are key to people being able to notice a difference. After seeing how taking even the same herbs or mushrooms from several other sources didn't really seem to help unless I took a LOT extra, which became quite expensive and more of a hassle in my routine to where I'd forget to take them at all.

About 4 years ago, I told my psychiatrist that I wanted to try alternatives for treating my mental health (BPD, MDD, PMDD, PME and ADHD) She was nervous, but helped me safely wean off psychiatric medicine that I'd been taking for 15 years (tried so many different medications and I never felt improvement). My symptoms are more improved on Mediterranean diet, and my top 3 for depression are albizia julibrissin (this is the only one to help the severity of my depression), butterfly pea flower, and lavender. I would not be here without albizia julibrissin, I was getting so tired of fighting to stay alive. Thank God for my psychiatrist helping me get off those meds. Haven't attempted since 2018, haven't self harmed in a few years, and I am holding a job for the first time, got my driver's license and am going to school again. I haven't tried st John's wort, feel nervous to, but I add turmeric to my anti inflammatory drink every morning to help with neuropathy, good stuff. Great video, im so glad there are open minded professionals like you out there.

i am currently in a situation where the medicines ive been taking for 8 years didnt help because no one cared enough to go to the root of my problem. i got extremely burnt out which doesnt seem like normal burnout, quit college, basically never go outside because my anxiety has skyrocketed, i stopped my benzos and had to go through withdrawals for a while, it's eased a little bit now. but i would much rather not be on prescription medicines because it internally made me feel horrible. im on the path of finding herbs that actualy help me, i have no guidance in this aspect right now. im starting to lose hope because none of the herbs are providing me any strong sense of relief for a chronic condition like mine and im nervous to try st johns wort again because the cycle of getting disappointed over and over again is tiring me. herbs are not a quick fix, but i really want to see some relief in sight.

I was taking high doses of cucumin after I had covid for the insane neuro and nerve pain that developed. It worked fast but as the pains changed I cut it out (also to see what would happen) now my inflammatory markers are clearly showing the first time on blood tests and I’m having to take more anti histamine meds for vomiting. I hope it can help the vomiting with its inflammatory action

Excellent description of all the ways self-medicating with herbs can HARM you. Cannot tell you how many patients show up with no awareness at all that they are dosing themselves into a crisis!! If you think that most people are careful and look at the contraindications of these herbs, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. I don't need this kind of business, so thanks for being crystal clear on all of the ways these herbs can be misused and create problems. Being natural doesn't mean without potential harm.

I was on valproic acid for 10 years (not bipolar), it destroyed my liver and made me more aggressive. I've been off it for 2 years now. I have psychosis and ocd so take SSRI's and anti-psychotics as well as beta blockers for anxiety. Cannabis is the worst drug for me, I used to use it but it made me paranoid, depressed and addicted. St. John's wort can also cause serotonin syndrome if you already take anti-depressants (serotonin poisoning).
