I keep meaning to ask…is your synagogue within walking distance? Are most of your neighbors Orthodox? There is a mostly Orthodox neighborhood in Atlanta with a nice synagogue nearby, and every Saturday one sees a lot of folks walking to it. I always assumed that people choose that neighborhood because they can’t drive on Shabbat, but I wonder about the people who can’t live nearby. By the way, all of the nearby streets have names like Christmas Lane, Santa Clause Drive, Reindeer Road, etc. ! Wishing you a meaningful 9 days.

Is this a customary thing like Purim, that is not one of the high holy days like in Leviticus, but added later to commemorate important events in Jewish history? I’m curious when it was established, and whether it’s only Orthodox Jews that have this or all Jews? Wishing for you to be blessed greatly as you are going through these three weeks.

Thanks for your response! I feel like that's true for Judaism and Christianity in Hollywood. Weirdly, I don't seem them taking on Islam. I'm seeing blatant mockery of these faiths or inclusion of devout characters for reasons of diversity to only turn around and make them the silly or old-fashioned. I didn't appreciate how they portrayed Sheldon's mom of TBBT, made her out to be a complete loony bin. And I would be more offended but because it's become to typical of Hollywood I'm not longer surprised by it.
