Wow, there was actually a 12" of this song? I remember when it was playing on the radio, the critics hated it but we fans thought it was brilliant. Thank you for the great retrospective. You'll need to update this at some point because Paul McGann reprised the role of the 8th Doctor in 2005 in the Big Finish audio dramas, and then for TV in 2013. I just remembered how much Capaldi's look resembled Pertwee's in many ways.

Actually you are thinking of the original song that the KLF/Timelords/The JAMs used called Rock & Roll Part 2 by Gary (Sad Pedophile) Glitter. Gary did sing with the KLF in versions of this song on the Maxi Single in particular "Gary Joins the JAMs". Just some factual information regarding the song you now hear in sports arenas.... it is not this one!

I'm 68, these days I see as many doctors as months in a year. I recently & actually had an appointment with an Asian doctor named "Who." I didn't even realize the irony at the "time." Then, as I left the medical facility, I passed by his office door. A small white sign had his title & name. Below that was a larger blue sign with the word "TARDIS" in capital letters.

I will always have an affection for Jon Pertwee's Doctor, him being the one I saw first as a kid from 1970. It took me a little while to grow into Tom Baker's portrayal. He at first seemed a little silly with his massive scarf and some strange mannerisms but eventually I got into him. In the 21st century era I would have to split my choice between David Tennant and Peter Capaldi. Both had shades of "classic Who" that I appreciated. My God! I can't believe I'm 56 years old and discussing characters from a show I started watching when I was 8!

I can understand why you might not be keen on him given that the three previous doctors were more about action and did a lot of action scenes but Capaldi is actually closer to the original idea for the Doctor than Ecclestone, Tennant OR Smith. Remember William Hartnell was quite old when he got the role and played it as the elderly scientist who solved problems with his intellect rather than by running around. In a way you could even say it's appropriate. The Doctor was given a whole new set of regenerations and Capaldi COULD be viewed as a sort of Hartnell v2.0. I would recommend watching the Hartnell and Patrick Troughton episodes for a clearer idea of what Capaldi is actually doing in the role as it's very similar to how both those men played him.
@chrisholder2269

Tom Baker Tom is still alive he's 85 years of age Don't you love us Liverpudlians ;) Baker in 2010 Born Thomas Stewart Baker 20 January 1934 (age 85) Liverpool, Lancashire, England Occupation Actor, writer Years active 1968-present Spouse(s) Anna Wheatcroft (m. 1961; div. 1966) Lalla Ward (m. 1980; div. 1982) Sue Jerrard (m. 1986) Children 2 Website www.tombakerofficial.com Thomas Stewart Baker (born 20 January 1934) is an English actor. He is best known for his portrayal of the fourth incarnation of the Doctor in the science fiction series Doctor Who from 1974 to 1981,[1][2] a longer tenure than any other actor, and for the narration of the comedy series Little Britain.[1] Baker's voice, which has been described as "sonorous", was voted the fourth-most recognisable in the UK.[3] At the age of 15, Baker began study as a religious brother. He gradually lost his vocation and at 21 he left religious life and undertook National Service in the Royal Army Medical Corps. On leaving the army, he served in the Merchant Navy and then became an actor, joining the Royal National Theatre under Laurence Olivier.[2] Baker was in his thirties when his professional acting career began, and his first major film role was as Grigori Rasputin in Nicholas and Alexandra in 1971, when he was 37. He went on to play the villainous Prince Koura in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad in 1973, which led to his casting in Doctor Who. During his period as its star, the series was distinguished by high viewing figures and many stories which became regarded as classics. He remains one of the most instantly recognisable incarnations of the character.[4] It is Baker’s incarnation of the Doctor that has most often appeared in The Simpsons.[5] He continued to win regular roles in TV later in his career, most notably in the series Medics and Monarch of the Glen. In addition to performing acting roles, Baker has narrated commercials, video games, audiobooks, radio plays and television series. Married three times, the second to Doctor Who co-star Lalla Ward, Baker has two sons from his first marriage.
