I own several models from spyderco and have spent quite a bit of time cutting with all of them. The native 5 is a smart efficient design without spyderco's trademark hump but I came across a few issues . First the handles are a bit short and for people that have larger hands holding the native isn't exactly ergonomic as say a shaman, pm2, stretch or mannix. Secondly the native blade is a bit short in length coming under 3 inches. I also find it often gets caught up while cutting material's because of the foward finger choil interfering with the blade path.
The Manix 2 is my favorite Spyderco, the ball bearing lock is genius design that in my opinion just feels more positive than crossbar/axis locks style locks, I put flytanium ti cages in my standard G10 and lightweight which is unnecessary but elevates the whole feel, great knives.
@AlexsKnivesSuch

Axis locks or Axis style locks break way to easily then the ball lock. I have the Manix 2. Will change the ball cage and scales to copper. Only Benchmade knives I want someday is the freak or mini freak & the Osborne with the green scales. Otherwise Benchmade knives are way to pricey for the springs to break from fidgeting or over time of usage.

I put AWT scales on my Manix 2 and what a difference. For me, it went from a knife that I wasn't sure I would keep to my favorite knife. I also upgraded the internals to a ceramic ball bearing and a spring that is a bit easier to use.

The best edc Spyderco knife is the Chaparral. Nothing slices like it. It weighs nothing and is nice in the pocket. You seem to kind of bent on overpaying for bigger knives and then throwing more money at them in upgrades. Edge geometry is what counts, mate. You don't need a big knife for EDC. Big knives are for workhorses. The Sage is really cool and well priced but I am lefthanded and don't like the access lock. I have a Mannix 2 and, yes, they are great and are worth the money. And, yes, the have their uses when you need a longer blade. They also have great geometry. One of the things I love about it is how customisable they are, all three of mine are decked out in custom scales, clips etc. the lightweight has AWT aluminium scales on it which only increase the weight by .1 of an ounce and make it feel so much more premium (but I actually really liked the way they did the FRN on the Para LW), my s45vn Para has AWT aluminium scales which actually reduce the weight via a liner delete and a black MXG clip and then the cruwear one has purple haze fat carbon with a bronze lynch clip

I love the knife and would like to have a few more Spydercos, but since they are so very pricey I don't know if I want to spend my whole knife budget on them. I might spring for a couple more including the Para 3, but they are just too costly to consider a large collection when there are so many cheaper quality knives out there.

Okay. Yeah. Speaking as a lefty, I too find the compression lock easy to manipulate and disengage. I appreciate that most Spyderco (some are less so than others) are largely designed to be ambi. And I appreciate their average price point. My problem though is that, thanks largely to learning more about the knife world through your channel MC, I’m ready to move up into midtech and premium production (and eventually custom). Which is where the lack of conscientious design for lefties becomes a serious sticking point. I have no problem realizing the rationale behind the pricing in the midtech, semi custom, and custom markets. But I do have personally a big problem with the notion of plunking down $800-a few $k on a knife that isn’t fully accessible to me based upon my handedness. I (and I can only assume by extension many other prospective customers) would love it if more manus/designers were a bit more accommodating to lefties.

Deployment is a smooth breeze, but hey, it's a SpyderCo. The finger forward grip has amazing stability and control both edge away/towards(thumb forward). That button actuated liner lock though... gah it's so easy to use even with the second detent in place. I can have this knife out of my back pocket, make several slices and have it back in my pocket before some people notice I've taken it out. Which frees up my hand again to continue the task. At work that's, not critical, but crucial for efficiency and often safety. First, thanks for the memes. Second, personally, I can't stand the Para3, it's too small for me, so I'd have the PM2 in number 1, the GB2 in number 2, the Shaman in number 3, and the manix in number 4

Spyderco talks about CQI (constant quality improvement) but a lot of loyal customers aren't happy with their CPI (constant price increase). Come on guys, we love your company and have been loyal to you for years. But please don't take advantage of that. The knives that are being made right now from other companies are a lot more competitive in terms of material/fit and finish and cost. I guess Spyderco and Benchmade see themselves as the Mercedes and BMW of the knife world. The premium companies offering diminishing returns because of their brand. And as harsh as this sounds, Spyderco is probably my single favorite knife company. But I find myself buying a lot less of them lately. Which sucks cuz there's a bunch of models I want but I just can't justify the purchase price.

Spyderco has got to be pound for pound the best knife company around. Their prices have been inflated but you can’t deny their build quality and their insane ability to make any blade steel into a decent to amazing cutting tool.

Gaintmouse by far is better. Hogue is better. Try getting magnacut from Spyderco. Try getting a Shaman in a steel you want besides s30v. Try getting a fair price…unless you thing $100 for VG10 delica is a deal.

This is a joke. The only Spydercos that have decent qa/qc are the Taiwan models and they’re overpriced compared to the what’s coming out of China at this point.

There are a ton of companies with incredible build quality and better materials that don’t price their knives as expensive as these.

Key word - China Everyone knows this bud. Labor is cheap there. They aren't a charity and you're not a detective. Don't overcomplicate it for comment section clout.

@@CAT3616Gyou obviously don’t know basic economics lol. USA made has shot through the rough across the board, I mean look at Benchmade. $180 for a fucking Griptillian? Gag me. Ironically it’s largely due to the policies instituted by the globalists elites that make overseas made shit so much cheaper

I just handled Benchmade, Spyderco and Giantmouse in the same outing. I dont think I ever really want to buy Spyderco or Benchmade again. They felt barbaric in there over pricing for what feels like a product from 20 years ago (not to mention the blatant manipulation of FOMO and exclusives). Giantmouse felt like a Ferrari at Toyota pricing.

The best spyderco is the Brad Southard. I'm glad I got it back in the day, when unfortunately... the only knife reviewer was nutnfancy😂😂.

Just put Applied Weapons Tech scales on the 15v shaman and a s110v manix2 there soooo good. Might as well sell off my other 40 knives. Sure im $600CAD into the shaman but when it comes to knives money doesn’t really matter.

I have to disagree with the compression lock being “very lefty friendly.” I play guitar righty, so I have reasonable dexterity, and while yes, it can be used lefty, I argue that it is awkward and has a high potential of dropping. I can do it, but I have to concentrate on it. And if I’m grabbing the knife out of my pocket to make a quick cut while I have my hands full, I’m working on something, etc.… An AXIS lock, or a button lock, or even a back lock are intuitive enough that I don’t really have to think about closing it one handed. The compression lock is not that. I have a lefty PM2, so I totally get how awesome it is, but ambi and lefty friendly it is not. And I am okay with it, but I wish they would make more lefty versions, like para3, or Sage…

Just paid $220 for a Para 3 in blue G10 with CPM S110V. I'm happy. I know it's a lot but it's my first 110V blade and I love it, so who cares.

Just picked up the Para 3 in Maxamet with grey g10 scales. First Spyderco i’ve ever had and the best knife i’ve ever had. It feels like it was made for my hand. Looks like it’ll be hard to buy any other knives than Spyderco from now on lol

I was going crazy as the list went on without mentioning the Sage Lightweight 😂😂. It’s literally the model that got me into Spyderco knives. It’s such an amazing knife!! Plus it’s one of those rare knives running on washers that has action like it’s running on bearings while also having an amazing price tag! You can also carry this knife around in a pair of basketball shorts and barely even feel it. It’s so light and one of my most carried knives.

I needed a new knife, found this video, skipped to number 1, immediately bought it, it turns out to be the best edc i've ever carried. I shop like a giga chad.

You should do videos from fans personal user knives! It would be interesting to see everyone’s personal choices and wear and tear over time with these iconic models we all carry.

9:42 Matriarch 2. Too small. The only Spyderco I could justify is the big Civilian. It's as ugly as the rest of the Spydercos but way more threatening looking than anything else.
