I love Betty Okino! The British Gymnast, Ondine Achampong, reminds me of A LOT of Betty. And GUUUURRRLLLLLL, Dawes got so done so dirty by USAG, all because she made mistakes on her vaults at the 93 and 94 World AAs. I have been a huge Dawes Stan since 93 and every time she fell in the worlds or the Olympics, it BROKE my heart. I wanted her to win so many individual Gold Medals at the Worlds and the Olympics, but it never came about. She should have easily won 5 medals at the 96 games. But she does have the rare exception to be part of 3 different Olympic Teams that have medaled in the Team AA, 92, 96, 00! I wish she had stayed competing during the 97 worlds. She could have easily knocked Gina Gogean out of a few medal spots!

No one talks about how Dominique Dawes is one of only three US gymnasts to compete in three Olympic Games. And the other two competed in the 1950s and 60s when grown women were competing. It has taken 24 years for this record to even be challenged (Go Simone and Gabby and yay to grown women competing all over the world!). I never understood why this isn’t celebrated more. She has always been a favorite of mine!

Fabrichova is mentioned, I'm happy. Great list in general but I feel like Fabrichnova in particular is so overlooked. Her bars dismount was absolutely groundbreaking then and is still amazing now and not many gymnasts do it. Also YES to Amanar. I feel like she was so obershadowed by the Raducaan drama in 2000

@@gymlandia4467 I mean moreso her skills/ability. She had the ability to win so many medals if she didn’t have super abusive coaches who drove her to eating disorder and a mental breakdown during Olympic Trials. She also was a victim of the age change rule…if she was born two months earlier she would have been senior in 1995, 1996, AND 1997. Also she won two gold medals at the 98 Goodwill Games. That’s just below Olympics and World Champs, it was a big deal. She beat Simona Amanar! But since there were no worlds that year she had to wait yet ANOTHER year. She was just screwed over big time. She was also the first gymnast ever to do a Rudi so give my girl her flowers 💐

@@Greatgownsbeautifulgownss I disagree. I think honestly she was overrated and overhyped. She had all this hype for being amazing and the next superstar and achieved virtually nothing. By that I mean no World medals, not even qualifying to an Olympics, and in fact never even coming close to a world medal either. And she couldnt even win the freaking American Cup once, an event rigged for Americans with what everyone knows and agrees (including all Americans) heavily biased judging in favor of Americans annualy. Jenny Thompson and Kristie Powell both won American Cups in her era with the aid of the rigged pro US judging, and she still couldn't win even one. She hit all her routines including bars in 97 and still lost to Elvira Teza, who messed up badly on beam- Teza's best event. People talked about her bar problems being only mental, when in reality she was just plain shit on bars period. She couldn't even do a basic piroutte properly on them. Commentators ignored her form issues on beam, plus her frequent balance checks, and her constant landing issues on floor.

I also really hope she is doing well right now espicially since how some people treated her since she shared her story about vitaly scherbo.

Adding in the fact that she DID compete AA and is already showing more difficulty than other gymnasts who have had LESS time off than she did. Gabby had the highest D score out of that entire meet and that’s not even her at her full potential. The folks saying she did “terrible” don’t see her making the team , or saying ridiculous shit about her not having enough stamina are the ones who never wanted her there to begin with. You can tell with all the extra critique concerning this ONE performance but hardly any for Suni’s winter cup performance which Gabby managed to outperform after an 8 yr hiatus.

I'll admit that I'm a Shannon Miller stan. However, I am also a fan of Ms Awesome Dawesome. She had that combo of piwer and artistry while having good form. I liked the rivalry between her and Shannon. I was soo sad when she fell on vault in 93 and 94 worlds. I really wanted a 1 2 finish in the AA with Shannon and Dominique. I don't know if she'd psych herself out or what, but it just felt sometimes the pressure for to her keeping her from being greater than she was. With the disaster that was the sydney Olympics in gymnastics, Domi ique was a clutch team member. I agree she was an underrated gymnast.
