@@drsammunroe Question: If I had a company involved in environmental remediation and hired an ecologist, would I need a marine biologist?

It's so wild to me that such a useful career is so hard to get a good wage for at the start

This video was super helpful! I did want to ask how is their any site you specifically use to look for internships & volunteer opportunities.

I am so glad you found it useful. To answer your question, I don't use one specific website, I use a lot of websites! I use the standard job searching websites like seek and indeed, but I also sign up to mailing lists for jobs or volunteer opportunities with any organisation I might be interested in. Most government agencies, universities, museums, or private companies will have these mailing lists so be sure to sign up to the locations that interest you. I would also go to their websites to check for updates, usually once a week, until I found a job or internship. However, if there is particular organisation that interests you, don't be afraid to contact them directly. In my old shark lab during my PhD, I didn't have to look very hard for volunteers, people just knew about our lab and called us to see if we could take them out into the field. I would recommend being proactive and contacting different organisations or people you might like to volunteer with and see if they will take you on. I hope that helps!

Could you give some more info about how to build your resume? Connecting the point between having a degree and getting a good job in the field that requires experience and not just a degree.

Hi Andrew, thanks for the comment. Doing a video on your suggested topic might be a bit outside of my channel's niche, but I did write a blog a few years ago about my experiences post-phd and how I worked to find stability, you might find let helpful. www.acgr.edu.au/impact-blog/surviving-the-postdocalypse/ In terms of skill development, I would suggest picking up some skills unrelated to the science itself, whether that be communication, management, etc. this will make you much more attractive to a wider range of employers. But it really depends on what kind of job you want as well.

I admit I started watching your channel because you are quite cute, but I have stayed subscribed because you have great content and I have learned a lot. I myself have a Masters in Military History and I own a military antiques company as it's not easy making a living just as a Historian or teaching. I spent 20 years in law enforcement before that so at least I'm not getting shot at anymore.
