@asussurge670 I think it was really clear why this was the case. The character in mind could not beat two of the final four since they were comp beasts. One of these comp beasts had a really exploitable weakness though. So they devoured their ally because they couldn't beat them otherwise. Now if you asked why this same character betrayed their alliance in the final six, i don't have a good answer. They should've waited until final five to do that.

@@jasongordon460 I’m pretty sure they’d been under the assumption that their decision in the final 6 episode would’ve gone relatively unnoticed by their alliance partner, bc of the persons role in the challenge that episode. kinda like how another character voted against their alliance earlier in the season and nothing came of it. the only reason the alliance member even realized was bc of something another competitor said. imo they would’ve been fine with what they did in the final six had it not been for the quick emotional change between ppl in the alliance at the end of the challenge.

I completely agree with the point with the challenges being more boring. What made the original three seasons so great was that even though the challenges were entertaining, they moreso served as an excuse for fleshing out the characters and their relationships, and not just being “extreme”, and it sucks to see this show get it so wrong.
@nuibaba280

But the writers confirmed that these challenges for the reboot existed entirely as an excuse for characters to interact with each other and it really shows. @@nuibaba280 for me, thats not enough… just having them interact as a result of the race is boring and disconnects the challenges with the chatacters themselves. As mentioned in the video a lot of them are just races with increasing levels of “EXTREEEEME!!” which isnt very creative, and doesnt work much to highlight anything interesting about their character other than their ability to race. A lot of the challenges in the first seasons showed us stuff about the characters that was much more general, like the episode with their fears, the one in the wild, etc, which all highlighted stuff about them that fleshed them out to be much more interesting, and provided a link between the challenges and the drama. Without that link, its just whiplash between challenges and character stuff, and they could barely do any of the latter anyways, partially due to this lack of connection and a need to have a ton of challenges. I hope this highlights what I was trying to get at with my original comment.

It's sad to see that your main takeaway is that the new season is 'missing something' but after watching your review I fully agree with your viewpoint. To me, the new season is a fantastic back-to-its-roots season. Coming from Pahkitew as the last mainline TD season it's so refreshing to see some relatively 'normal' stereotypes again. To me, the big issue is that - once again - this was a thirteen episode season, which means you lose on so much of the possible development as a 26-episode season. No surprise then that you put the four seasons that do allow for 26 episodes at the top. For me it's not a big bother JUST YET, purely because of the knowledge of a second season with all the returning cast members, allowing for basically a 26-episode run but spread over two thirteen-episode sagas. The season showed a lot of potential and leaves a to long for and desire from a second season, after which I think we can deffinitevely say if Total Drama is indeed back to its former glory or not. Anyways thanks for the fun video and for keeping Total Drama in the mainstream media!

We also learned from Episode 6 that MIllie loves being flung by a catapult. Also, just not liking being flung is not the same as screaming and fainting intermittently. Also, I'm pretty sure we learned that Zee does drugs. Probably has acid and orange soda cocktails. And the kiss finally happened - you know it's serious when the biggest strategist was willing to overshoot instead of getting points just to rescue a crush. And I know Bowie did get another three thousand points before somersaulting into the tapioca, but Julia was the one handling the catapult, so that was more her doing. I thought the beauty of this season was that there was more room for characterization before and after challenges. We got lots of dynamics, and it's also the first time we had so many strategists who were not treated as villains, just antagonists. Bowie may refer to himself as a villain, but it's pretty clear that he's not evil, while Julia is a villain and unapologetic about it, and MK is...I'm hoping she'll be the main antagonist next season because people will have forgotten her after Bowie and Julia upstaged her. There are many things about this review that don't sit right with me at all. 1) Total DramaRama is not a babies show. All of its episodes, jokes and stories are clearly made for kids around 6-11, and the characters act that way as well. It's easy to say that it is a baby show by only looking at its concept, but if you actually watch any of the episodes, which you clearly didn't, it's obvious that it is a show like Teen Titans Go or even something as old as Dexter's Lab. Just mindless comedy for kids to laugh at and be entertaining by. It also only has more episodes than OG TD because its episodes are only half as long. It is nowhere near as bad as the internet makes it out to be, yes that fart fairy thing was garbage, but none of the other episodes of the show are anything like it. 2) Not all of the old characters looked like potential main characters, nor did all of them have a design where you can immediately tell what their personality is. Can you honestly really tell me, without watching any episodes, what Trent's personality will be like? Or Bridgette's? Or Cody's? or Ezekiel's? The Revenge and RR cast are even worse in that regard, the only characters from RR where you can somewhat get what their personality will be like are the ones that wear uniforms. You would have absolutely 0 idea what Dwayne and Junior would act like, or even Kitty and Emma. This criticism people have about the new cast design's always felt so rose-tinted and dumb to me. Total Drama always had character designs like these before, and so do most other shows in existence. The new cast also clearly has designs where you can get an idea on what the personality of these characters will be like. Axel, Bowie, Wayne, Raj (who wear hockey jerseys so it's clear they will have a thing for it, which they did. It isn't any different from people thinking Tyler will have a thing for sports because he wears a tracksuit), Julia, and without a single doubt Scary Girl and Zee, who both ended up being exactly like what people thought they will be like after looking at their designs. Goofballs. I heavily disagree about Bowie and Damien lookings like OCs too. 3) I don't get your criticism about the gross food eating challenge. The rainbow colored barf wasn't added there to make the challenge more brutal, it was clearly added there to make the barfs themselves look less disgusting. The poles challenge was a clear homage to Survivor, which also has a challenge like this in it. It has some similarities to the awake-a-thon, but the difference here is that Chris constantly tried bribing them with things to lose the challenge, which is again, what Jeff Probst also does to the contestants in this challenge. 3) The challenges being used to expand the characters personalities was ONLY a season 1 thing really. Even your favorite season, World Tour, most of its challenges are races, and the characters don't really get expanded upon because well, the prior seasons already did that. Alejandro and Sierra do get expanded upon, but it was a 26 episodes season and they were the only newbies in the cast. With a show that has more than 6 seasons and a spin-off, it shouldn't be a shocker to anyone that they can't come up with completely new and original challenges, that also expand on the 16 brand new characters, in a season with only 13 episodes. 4) Your "least worthy to most worthy of screentime" list makes no sense. Why are Scary Girl and especially Zee so high when they were just comic relief characters with no story? Oh, is it because you like them more than the characters with actual storylines? Then why aren't you just calling this a list of the characters you like the least to who you like the most? To me it also feels like you are being very unfair to most of these characters, and purposely ignore a lot of their good qualities, Bowie being the biggest example of this, but even Zee a character you claim to like is a character you could've, and should've mentioned how he's an amputee, and the great way the season handled it. In fact, you didn't mention at all how the season handled its LGBT storyline either, and how neither of the characters involved with the story were just gay and that's it. The show did a great job with how it wrote it, it didn't feel like pandering, and it deserves praise for it. Actually the season in general did a lot of great things previous seasons either didn't do, or did worse, and you gave them 0 mentions. How strategy was so important in this season, Chef's fresh new role and how it impacts the tension of the eliminations, I can go on. Axel also wasn't entirely like Shawn, literally the only thing they have in common was being athletic and having a thing for zombies, which for Axel was only brought up once. She was more of a second Eva if anything. 5) Your criticism about the soundtrack. First of all, I disagree with it being generic, they sound cool especially the elimination music. But secondly and most importantly, questioning why it's there makes no sense. The new season is a reboot. Of course it's gonna have a new soundtrack. 6) Chris being the only thing you weren't disappointed by goes completely against everything good you said about the season before, such as its humor, which you said at the beginning you really liked. When you say stuff like this, it's hard for me or to really believe you actually liked the season. 7) If you say you want it to succeed, making a video like this where you spend most of the time criticising it, before the season even officially releases in its most important countries (US and Canada), is really not going to help the show at all in the slightest bit. You're scaring away people from watching and supporting it more than anything.

baby cartoons was a late 80s, early 90s thing. 70s cartoons looked like Scooby Doo knockoffs, 80s cartoons was when it became legal to market toys with cartoons so care bears, mlp, transformers. When that fad died, that's when the baby cartoons came, a pup named scooby doo being, like, the only good one, while others like yo yogi basically killed the character.

Thank you SO much for criticizing the lack of a theme in this season. It's really one of my biggest problems with it, especially since I think every season before it post-Island had a great theme, it sometimes being better than the season itself. (TDAS had SO much potential ugh.) I also enjoyed the season and think it's one of the better ones alongside Island, World Tour, and Ridonculous Race. (Not Action though, I think Action is pretty bad.) But I felt like it was missing something, and though I definitely have my own reasons for why that is that aren’t necessarily yours, I'm glad you spoke my mind with that one point.

I agree with a lot of statements and points you made. I liked the reboot - watched it in one sit - and for my biggest luck, I left the series off at TDA (we simply didn't have CN during that time) so I could straight up compare the two TDI seasons without any other addition, the original and the current one. for some weird reason, I love Chris, he is the only sadistic monster character who I love. ever since TDI first aired. I did watch the series because of him. and while I'd like to finally know, what the hell happened with him as child, that made him to be like that, we'll most likely not get to the bottom of it. basically, I was thirsty for Chris and Chef moments in ths current season, because they are cool. as for the contestants, I didn't specifically like anyone, but the others you mentioned, and because of the reasons you mentioned them. there wasn't enough space for character development and we didn't get to know them well enough, to be able to bond. I thought the person who won it, will do something with their life now that they got a ton of money, which they probably needed (not spoiling) but in the end of the day, their life probably did not change the way they secretly wanted it to change. so I was "meh" when they won. because of this, I couldn't care less about any of the teens. or maybe I'm just too old lol, they are literally 16 and I'm almost twice their age. this new season worked with an already estabilished formula, and as soon as you work by that, and not try new and wild things as experiment, this happens. so I guess that was the main reason, why people don't feel like this season has offered anything new, or was different from the others. but ugh holy shit. I entirely forgot about one of the creators' disgusting fart and vomit fetish and I was eating while watching the series....uhhhhhh. instant regret.

I’m really hoping the second season builds upon things that we saw in the first. These characters do have potential, but it all depends on how they’re fleshed our in the future. - I do hope for a revenge arc from Caleb, though it would also be hilarious if he were the first boot again. - Axel is really interesting to me and I want her to go further next season. - There’s not much else you can do with Nichelle other than watch her fail miserably in challenges again. - Lauren/Scary Girl is hilarious and I want her to go far. - I’m banking on Damien being a lock for the final two next season. He’s so much fun to watch and his determination right before he got the boot has me hoping. - There isn’t much else to do with MK. I don’t think she's compelling enough to take Julia's spot as the antagonist of the season. - I don’t know if you can do much with Wayne's character but I really want more of Raj and Bowie. Those two are really cute together. - Ripper can eat shit. - Zee is hilarious and I really hope he gets a good amount of screen time next season, even if his character is kind of static. - I don’t think you can really do much else with Chase and Emma except make them fight more. - Julia is awesome and I hope she continues to serve, even if she doesn’t get to be the antagonist of the season. - There’s not much else for Millie to do but I so want more about Priya and her possibly coming to terms with her messed up parents.

This TDI Reboot was pretty ok as a standard reiteration of the classic TDI to its bestest degree. Some dynamics were interesting to watch while others were underutilized or outright a chore to watch. Julia is as reasonably close to Heather as possible without really being Heather and I liked Emma until she was flip-flopping after Chase in the later half of the season and Bowie really played the game well enough that he could've won had it not been for a few ticks here and there and I am fine with the new Chris and Chefs voices despite the originals not coming back and they did indeed do a serviceable and fine job with their portrayals. Hopefully, the crew can look back on this season and see what worked and what didn't character, challenge and dynamic wise and then tweak them for the 2nd season so that TDI can return to being as great and fun as it once was without being too much influenced by the current generation.

I really don't get the design philosophy of the casts outside of the first one. Cast 1 had a bunch of vivid colors, unique body shapes, and standout accessories that made them 100% unique from everyone else. The only one I think didn't quite have that is Eva and maybe Tyler but the rest just snapped. Even someone as simple as Trent had that handprint shirt that just made him pop out. The only person here that clicks as "unique" is Scary Girl (and even then she's basically just Gwen but red/violet themed) and MK thanks to her jacket. Everyone else is just... who tf is this loser?
@sameyfan612
Жыл бұрын
Some of the things you said about the gen 1 cast can also apply to characters from the other seasons. They also feature characters with vivid colors, unique body shapes and standout accessories, not all but the gen 1 cast also have characters that don't fit the descriptions you are giving to them. Lindsay and Gwen have pretty much the exact same lover body, Katie and Sadie wear the exact same clothing and hairstyle, Noah and Duncan have the same lover body too, Ezekiel and Noah don't have vivid colors, and so on. Too many of the characters just have a random something on their shirts to make them pop, but the only ones that actually fit with the characters were Duncan, DJ and Owen. Harold having a hamburger on his shirt, and Trent a handprint made no sense and felt super random, not to mention Leshawna's shirt having kumquats on it. The unique body shapes can also be negative to some people, as not everyone is fond of Duncan's long torso, or Trent's clearly JFK inspired headshape. At the end these are just designs, and people are giving them way too much attention for no real reason. A character's looks don't matter anywhere near as much as their writing does. Everyone disliked Bowie's design for example, and yet he ended up being one of the most beloved characters of the season thanks to his writing.

we definitely should wait until the second season to compare to the og season. I would’ve definitely preferred 26 episodes but if the network wants 13, we get 13. there’s not much the writers can do abt that. it’s obvious from the season that they’re stretching character arcs and interpersonal relationships over 26 episodes, so I’m not sure why you would complain that character arcs didn’t get finished when we only have part 1 of this cast. besides, the two 13 episodes seasons give eliminated characters, esp early outs, more interesting motivation during the rematch. it would’ve been better with two 26 episode seasons, sure, but after 26 episodes, not everyone wants to see everybody in the cast again bc some characters have gone stale. with two 13 episode seasons, EVERYBODY gets to come back for the rematch. it’ll make the character dynamics a lot more interesting, similar to the revenge arc eva had when she came back during the first season.

I feel that the episode were to fast, some jokes ended to early, also it's not like they didn't have time, there are filler scenes on the series that, if they cut out, they could spent more time on characters and other stuff. for example the "walk to the elimination campfire", while i was re-watching the original series i notice that there was no walk on tdi07 and sometimes we directly cut to the bottom 2, here they take their time for showing all of this and i don't feel like it's telling us something about the characters. On this i also feel that they tent to say and not show, mostly with bowie, like in the first chapter, he goes an says he convice the other team to take out Caleb, compared to Heather, Alejandro, Scott and The Ice Dancers when they show how they eliminated some of the contestands, here it feels like bowie could have done it or just take the credit. Even with a second season where they expand on the same characters, if is the same pacing and filler like in this season, i don't have big hopes.

The walking to the campfire is a homage to Survivor, and it is meant to create more tension for what's gonna happen at the elimination. Honestly i think this season was pretty good, the characters are stereotypical but that's what total drama is about, the only reason the original cast broke out of their stereotypes a bit is because they got multiple seasons, so I suspect the second season with this cast would allow for a lot more development. In terms of their personalities, they're pretty good, Chase being a narcissist, Millie being pretentious, Bowie being sassy and so on, decent personality choices with exception to ema who I personally found almost as annoying as ripper to watch, and that guy stayed way longer than he should have. Entertainment wise Bowie, Mk, Z, Loren, Julia, the hockey bros and Damien are to me the clear winners, Pyra is almost there but the fact that she did Mediocre at most challenges even though she was trained from birth, that missed potential, put her down a peg in my book. Damien, Z and Loren had by far the best comedy and entertainment to me, while Bowie, Mk and Julie basically caried the plot on their backs, most of the other characters could have been changed for new ones in the middle of the series and it wouldn't have been affected anything that's how minor and irrelevant they were to me. In terms of challenges, I actually enjoyed that they seemed to take more inspiration from actual reality shows with more in-depth challenges but i do agree that some felt really bland, and they didn't allow the characters to shine much, to me this season would be around a 7/10

Training physically doesn't mean you're prepared mentally nor can you cover every little thing Total Drama does. Priya was only training in seclusion against her will, that wouldn't make her "better than everyone" at execution. That just makes her a tryhard and disconnected from reality, as proven by her attempt at assuming how animals behave 24/7 only to be proven wrong. @@christianottley8542 The old saying goes: jack of all trades and a master of none. Bowie and Julia are better prepared for real life scenarios than Priya. Priya is skilled but not a master at stuff. She only trained in seclusion and doesn't account for every factor imaginable. Priya training such a wide net with a lot of them being done once from a camp experience guarantees that she wouldn't master much of anything. She already has merit for a backstory as she's one of the strongest players in the season, but her consistently being better than EVERYONE is a dogshit idea that overshadows everyone else and makes Priya a mary sue.

No they don't. Every other review is more valuable than this rubbish. It criticizes it for shit the original series had too.

The weirdo that doesn't like gays doesn't like the season with a gay character? What a surprise.

Have you ever watched Total Drama before? It made random pop culture and social media references since season 1.
