To be fair, the turbo inlet "cheat" was done by the team not Toyota. It also wasn't against the rules as they stood at the time as it had been checked numerous times. The teams like Lancia were allowed much more leighway regarding "Cheats" it was only that Toyota had honor and bowed out even though if contested they wouldn't have to. As for Japanese rally history it goes back a lot further with them dominating euro teams. Mazda Savana {RX2} ,240Z, Datsun 1600{510 in the US} as just a start.

Why can NOBODY get the information right on this car? They made way more than 2500 models of the 6th Gen GT-Four. However, they only made 2500 WRC homologation models, and they were only 1994 models. So the model you’re driving isn’t even a homologation spec.

It was a sic car for its time, I was watching Rally NZ the other day and even after nearly 20 years you still see WRXs from the 90s leading or at the top of group A and in other class’s, few can match that, most modern Subi I saw was a Hawkeye gen leading group A, this is against Fords Focus’s and I30s, and other current hatches, I didn’t see this gen Celica, but I wasn’t looking either, wouldn’t surprise me if there was as we got pretty much everything back then. Apart from GroupB which as a kid, I was lucky to witness on TV as Rally was big for us in the 70s but 80s of my younger years, JDM group A from 90s to mid 2000s was the best era of Rally, I struggle to watch it now, the rules the money and politics have destroyed it for me. Carlos Sainz will always be to that car what, legends were to the Quattro, Lancia etc, Colin MaCrae was to the WRX or Tommi Makinen to the EVO. I do remember that cheating incident too.

@celiturbo
4 жыл бұрын
2500 was the number of WRC edition cars built, there was a good many more ST205's built. This car is not one of them and does not have the anti lag bits, gearing, or multilink front suspension found on the Numbered Group A / WRC limited edition cars. The engine in this car is a 3rd gen 3S-GTE, not the 2nd gen found in the us spec mr2 turbo, That engine was shared with the ST185, the late JDM mr2 turbo had an updated gen 2 engine very similar to a ST185 CS/Group A, many differences to the 3rd gen. The GT-Four Continued on as the ST215 and ST246 Caldina with a 4th Gen 3S-GTE. Toyota had no wins with the car before 89. The 88/89 model year car won Carlos Sainz the drivers title with 13 wins in 1990, and had many more wins in 91/92. The change to the ST185 was made in 92, over two years after the car was in production, it holds 3 drives and 2 manufactures titles, the ST205 never had significant WRC success.
