Honestly, I've found the best way to deal with pirates, if they catch you at an outpost, is to announce their location and ship types in general chat. It might surprise a lot of traders to know that there's typically lots of "good guy" pvpers that are always excited to respond to a potential pvp situation. Especially one that has meaning rather than some coordinated fight. Yes, it's basically announcing your position to everyone in game and your "saviors" could just be more opportunistic pirates, but even if that happens or things go completely south, at least it's far more entertaining than just sitting around playing the waiting game or getting wrecked with 0 chance of survival. Just be sure to tip your saviors even if the pirates run off before they arrive! (which has happened for me because reality is some people just want easy kills/loot...)

A lot of mining outposts have a platinum bay pad where you can spawn some small fighters like the razor talon p72 or 85x. I would recommend getting one cause you will have a better chance agains pirates with those than a cargo ship. And if you are the type with no real combat skills the talon shrike has a lot of missiles to spam at any would be pirates to either kill them or annoy them enough to find an easier target.

Stop making videos highlighting the current ways I'm making money!!!! :) Interesting note that there is a major difference between the Cat and the C2. C2 is fine doing stops on planet surfaces, but it is more efficient to do moon stops on the Cat just because it takes a long time to get to out of atmosphere on a planet. I have a Nomad starter package and used that to do a bit of ROC mining, salvage cargo trading, and drug trafficking to make enough to buy a Cat (because it is just cooler than the C2) and am now using that to do large hauling. Thanks for the video!

In my humble opinion, armor and weapons does not really add safety. The two biggest “fail factors” are 30K and (organized) piracy and neither armor or weapons will make a difference. 30K, there are not really anything you can do to protect yourself, I usually look at how many ppl on the server, if its in the higher end, I don’t trade as I suspect the risk of 30K is higher the more ppl on the server…. One small thing on 30K is that there is a small chance to recover from a 30K with your cargo, but it is a bit of RNG. Piracy, its literally only organized piracy that is a problem, if it is a single (wannabe) pirate, you can usually run and jump away, but if you get caught by a group of organized pirates, well.. comply with their demands and hope you get away to break even or minimize your loss. But being alert, if there is anything that just look like a potential scout, stay away … in general, I stay away from all the usual (youtube) trade runs, sure the profit is reduced, but so is the risk and it takes a long time to recover from a complete loss.

Personal inventory’s never at risk (you wake up with your gear). There’s a thing called 30K protection for your ship and cargo, so generally when you log back in after a 30K you’ll see that your ship is at your home location - if you fly and get it from there the cargo will be onboard.

Yesterday, I was heading to the hangar in Lordville with 350k worth of goods in the ship, and some seriously weird bug happened. My character teleported straight to the Spaceport. From the ship into the spaceport, just like that. I was in the cockpit of my ship one moment and the next I'm in the terminal. Don't ask me how that happened. The ship marker was showing that the ship was in Hangar #3, so I went to that hangar to find the marker was there but not the ship. I lost my money and have to claim the ship. The bugs in this game are too extreme for trading to be done properly.

I'm going to assume that the running costs of any given ship, plus the set up costs from stock are trivial in this process but do note the option of fully crewed. Theory crafting, instead of one large cargo ship, the consortium flying an aggregate of slightly smaller but more combat capable craft. as a convoy 5 x MSR each with two crew is pretty close to a Cat as an example, but probably a far more off putting target for pirates. Smaller income per consortium member but might also let you explore the lower stock level profitable goods like gold or diamonds if there is a station where you might all go. OK, had originally been thinkling "fleet of Corsairs" but that's just the Drakeboi speaking🙂 The FRCN Gold Rush...everyone pulls an MR and ...

Great stuff as always, thank you. One question though: In the smuggling video you recommended using a micro hauler at no more than 24 SCU. In this video you recommend using at least a medium hauler at 100+ SCU. Does that mean there's no good trading for the small (but not tiny) haulers like the Cutlass Black, Freelancer etc? That would be a shame as they're a really nice size to fly.
@LoudGuns
Жыл бұрын
Good question, tbh the small haulers are in a pretty bad place. They don’t make enough on a legal run but they’re too big to fill up in a reasonable time on the illegal stuff. I would probably lean towards smuggling still at the lower end (cutty black sort of size) and maybe for things like the freelancer I would risk something high risk / high reward like the gold run. You might have to wait for a tick but realistically at a lot of outposts that sell gold, laranite or diamonds you could fill up a sub 100 cargo hold and make a decent profit per scu.

I disagree with the newbsuit. Usually if you are being pirated it is not just one so 1 v 3 or more and you are going to lose so better to not lose a good armor set on top of you other losses.

Sorry but lose a 15K set of armour? Plus if you’re flying something like a C2 1 can easily hold off 3 if you just hole up upstairs and let them come to you. You don’t have to win a fight - you just have to be a marker for the cavalry.

Hey Loud great vid again. There is still one problem with the 30k protection though. I normally have to „reattach“ the cargo to the grid after a 30k hit me. This can be a pain with a C2 because you can not access all cargo and have to shuffle around. The best option here is to have a friend onboard, that does that for all accessible cargo hops off you sell and than you repeat that. Cheers Sky

is a ship/friend escorting you better than a gunner?
@LoudGuns
Жыл бұрын
So personally I think it all depends - it’s worth keeping in mind that a lot of small fighters will slow you down since they lack the fuel. Also I tend to like gunners since it’s easy with stuff like fighters to forget the key mission (protect the hauler) and get stuck into a fight. That said having an escort does let you scout out locations before warping in and patrol more effectively. Sorry I realise this is not a conclusive reply 😂

Cat will be top hauler when there is time for (un)loading cargo in the game. As the only ship, that can swap the cargo grid, she will be able to totally skip the wait time associated with (un)loading by just hopping to a different base module and dock with command module. And even if you must buy a full cat to get an addtional basemodule, this will pay off rather quick. The lesser cargo grid will be a decent trade for the (possible) elimination of the (un)loading counters.
