As a fan of Shakespeare, I always find it exciting to see new refreshing takes on Shakespeare's works and this version takes the cake. The camera-work, the acting is just amazing. Can we talk about how the witches just drop by to give Macbeth the prophecy in his own home? Genius!

I agree. I thought that there were many interesting aspects to this version. The striking stark sets and cinematography (enhanced by being in B&W) were really interesting. The novel take on the witches was phenominal - really creepy and other-worldy. I mostly really liked MacBeth and Lady MacBeth being older than usual. I thought that this gave them quite a different feel to the more commonly shown ambitious young/in their prime couple. Even before the events of the play really took off, they were older, more mature and possibly more world-weary than we usually see and this was put across very well by both actors. And much more.

I think Joel Coen's two best directorial movies are "The Tragedy of Macbeth" (2021) and "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" (2000). His greatest Screenplay was for "Unbroken" (2014) in my opinion. His other films I would be interested in watching sometime are "Burn After Reading" (2008) and "A Serious Man" (2009).

The witches told Macbeth earlier that he shall be king (by now he is) but that Banquo (other knight) will produce his successor. Now the three witches come again and Macbeth has some more questions about it all. The three witches summon their master by tossing bits in the water all things of living things that don't go to heaven (animals, plants and non Catholics(middle ages Britain is where the play is set)) the master appears and he just asked if his reign will be long and if he has to fear Banquo. Tbh I'm not a Shakespearian.
