Sorry if it's a dumb question but why not get brake levers that can also shift instead of adding shifters on the side?

Other than that they would cost more… Normally those are for road groupsets. Road groupsets can’t handle as easy gearing as I needed to have (very hilly in here). Mtb groupsets on the other hand don’t have shifters to fit drop bar handlebars. Gravel groupsets were very new at the time, overpriced and still not as easy gearing probably :)

Great job and video. I agree that personal effort and creativity in your bike sweetens the experience. I love the shifter solution. It has given me some ideas for the next project I have lined up in the shed. Thanks so much for the upload. Subscribed.

I believe it was from an online bike store here in Switzerland - Bikester. They are normally available just google it.

Really great project! Could I ask what exact MTB shifters you used? I'm looking into doing the same (preventing to spend €€€ on brifters :))

Thank you!! It is Deore SL-M610 - I got them second hand.

@@peterkortvel I've been thinking about it and another option I have in mind is to install friction thumb shifters on a handlebar extender (The added ruggedness is a plus as it's meant for my touring/bikepacking bike). I'll post a picture of the final setup! :)

Nice work, one could really see and relate to the joy you had building this thing. It's great that it turned out to be such a good ride in the end. I like your style of making today video, often times build videos drag on. Yours was quick and nice to follow through. Keep up your good work.

Hey! That was awsome! Really like your video. Short and sweet. Those mtb shifters look quite nice. How is the breaking experience when in the drops? Thank for your efforts and keep up the good vibe.

Hi. Thanks so much!!! When in the drops the thumbs are sort of over the shifters :) but that was the compromise I had to make to make it fit on a good spot on the handlebars.

You should learn how to balance your audio, the part with only music are super loud, while the parts with you talking are way too quiet

Frame, fenders, saddle and rack were from trash. Groupset second hand. The rest I couldn’t source second hand in ok quality and within normal time frame.
