My neighbor has one of these treadmill desks, and I have found that it is EXTREMELY difficult to type while walking. I should also add that I am a dancer, and therefore possess above average coordination. If you can type an entire novel while walking, you deserve ALL THE AWARDS, sir. ALL THE AWARDS.

If we shouldn't sit for more than 4 hours... and school is 8 hours of sitting... is school kiiling us? and if I got a treadmill desk, I would probably forget that I'm on a treadmill and stop walking... and I would increase my chances of dying by slamming my face on the desk...

You're not in school for 8 hours a day. If it's high school, then approx 6-ish (with 1 hour in the middle for lunch) and you usually walk between classes at the end of class. If it's uni, you may be there 8, or more, hours a day, but classes are rarely more than 1.5 hours without some kind of break. Plus, these effects are much greater when you're over 30 (this I found out the hard way). As for forgetting to walk... I'm with you there.

I have 2 issues with the treadmill desk: 1) it uses electricity. 2) it could get dangerous if you've been surfing youtube all night. So here's a thought: The Stationary Bicycle Desk! I've seen stationary bicycles being used to power appliances and charge batteries. Perhaps it could charge a laptop? And it could be built with a back (lumbar support rocks!) and maybe armrests so a sleepy person won't fall out of it. I'd love to elaborate/collaborate with someone to make this happen!

There are manual treadmills (no power required). They simply rely on an incline to move the tread surface and have adjustable resistance to that movement. The magnetic resistance version might even be able to create power (a tiny amount, but enough to run the display for the treadmill, for example).
