She had a talent, not an amazing talent.. for one she was no Julie Andrews. She was only known for that unique melancholic tone that we hear in “have yourself a Merry little Christmas” and “Somewhere over the rainbow”... pretty much everything else is forgettable.. She didn’t have an impressive range.. all the same she made her mark.

She's wearing dark clothing (except her collar, which frames her face) and no hat, while everyone around her has a hat (even the men) and are wearing bright, colorful clothing. That was intentional. It called misc-en-scene. The black dress us to contrast with other colorful dresses (colorful to advertise technicolor) and draw attention to the star amongst the crowd. It is not unique, just a basic technique that was used in the early cinema era till today. The reason why you don't see that often today is because soft-focus close up and rditing became much easier with better camera. That being said, it added a lot to the scene. One of my favorite scene in old Hollywood.

This movie was made when WWII was raging and the outcome was unknown. Based on a series of magazine short stories that became a book recounting the semi-biographical experiences of a turn of the century family in St. Louis, it captures a sense of American wartime nostalgia for a more innocent time. In a sense, though, it looks back in a hopeful desire for a better tomorrow. But, everything about this movie is full of the love of family. It has incredible production values, colorful costuming, joyous music and heart-warming scenes worthy of a Norman Rockwell painting.

Oh, quite a few remember the movie! If you dont believe that Singin in the Rain is the greatest MGM musical of all time, then most Film historians believe its Meet Me in St. Louis ... and certainly Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is at least as well-known ad the Trolley song.

Judy Garland was the greatest Hollywood diva EVER, along with Rita Hayworth and Lucille Ball.

Rita Hayworth's and Lucille Ball's stardom was too dependent on their looks - Judy's career wasn't. Judy Garland is only comparable to Julie Andress and I'm exaggerating.

I still can’t get over watching this movie in theaters back in 2020, literally a couple weeks before lockdown. Seeing it on the big screen brings out the best emotions!
