As far as Ed and Lorraine are concerned I don't believe a word they say then again their actual involvement on this case was minimal. I like and respect the late Maurice Grosse however his judgement was tainted by personal tragedy. There is some interesting testimony - in particular from the level headed Policewoman (which has been well documented) who was witness to strange events within the house. As Mulder would say "I want to believe...."

I've never been convinced about this case. People point to the "man's voice" the the girl made, but anyone who was ever bored as a child knows how easy that is to do, then the whole jumping on the bed pictures that were passed off as "levitating" were just silly. Much like the Fox Sisters, I think it started as kids being mischievous and then having to double down.

I do feel it's 99% BS, but the fact it's in a council house and not a lavish historic building or of an historic ghost possessing someone, along with the copper's report always made me believe that 1%. I have watched a couple of docs. One had an interview with Janet, as an adult, claiming it was all real, but with the seeming demeanour of a desperate child trying to convince a parent they weren't lying. (My interpretation from watching and listening to her). So, from what I've seen of pictures and from what I saw of that interview - I lean to no. I lean to it all being a prank and the mum needing to believe her kids. However, I'm not being judgemental when I say that, because I wasn't there, I wasn't living their stressors etc. For me though, something's off. Question - has anything been reported happening since? I'm sure pubescent girls have lived there since. Thanks, Beardo! Nicely done. 💜🖤

Loved this, this case intrigues me. I’ve read/watched a fair bit relating to it. Maurice’s daughter who died…her name was Janet, she died in 1976, he investigated Janet and the house 1977-1979. Maybe his perception of things was clouded by grief? I don’t know. Was he looking too hard for proof of the paranormal due to his own daughter’s death. Still interesting. I would love someone to interview Janet now.

This case always makes me think of the German case of Chopper the ghost who harassed the young dental assistant - it started off as crude phonecalls then began as voices in the pipes and plug holes. It went on for months but was eventually classed as a fraud case, even though the dentist and his wife went bankrupt through the process. There's a Wikipedia page all about it that might be worth a read. The Enfield case is one I'll always take with a pinch of salt but I do also believe there is something more to it. The video overlooks the work of Anita Gregory, who was part of the SPR, the same organization that Grosse and Playfair belonged to. She worked with the 2 men on Enfield, but she was pushed out for accusing the girls of faking the phenomenon. She also got conflicting testimony from several people including the police officer cited in the video. We don't know the quality of her evidence. Playfair, who was known to be sensitive when people questioned his judgment, had SPR bury her research into the case after a bitter feud. Playfair also threatened to sue a journalist who was critical of the case. While I don't doubt Grosse and Playfair's sincerity, I think Playfair in particular has some of the worst traits we see in modern KZitem ghost hunters.

I really enjoyed this video Beardo. No drama or scorn, just objective questioning. I personally believe something genuinely paranormal was happening there but that the girls were responsible for a small number of phenomenon (faking) in order to try and 'prove' to any disbelievers present that something genuinely paranormal was happening on top of the more obvious phenomena. It has since been proven that Janet couldn't have sustained the vocal 'trickery' she was alleged to have employed for the hours on end Maurice Grosse recorded her for. I believe that the girls' mother may have also unwittingly played a part in that patterns have energed since that time that women of menopausal age are also often present during the emergence of poltergeist infestations. Poltergeists, as described by the paranormal researcher Nandor Fodor, are a ' bundle of projected repressions,' and the stress the girls' mother was under at the time may have been immense. People often overlook the possibility of two foci in a poltergeist outbreak, but I believe (using a Venn diagram as an analogy) it's in the overlap between two people predisposed to spiritual sensitivity where the poltergeist is created.

I don't know about the Enfield case. I am in a strange position on these kind of things. When I hear about this kind of stuff I default to 'It's BS', I always have. I never really believe tales of this kind. This is where my strange position steps in. I have had strange experiences since I was very very young, around 2yrs old, 64 of my 66 years on this planet. I haven't really told anyone, except a few family members I trust. I have to remind myself of my experiences and re-examine what I am told about others experiences. I find it extremely easy to be a full time skeptic and if I didn't remind myself of things I know to be true, I probably would not believe anyone ever. I think many people would fall into skepticism this way with the attitude of 'If I don't see it, it doesn't happen. I hope this makes sense; I read it three times and I'm still not sure. Thanks Beardo, I like the video and explanations. However, I saw a documentary in which was stated that Janet spoke in the gruff voice for three hours continually, which would have caused serious damage to her vocal cords. It was strange and overall I'm still calling it 98% BS.

I literally live round the corner from this house and apparently, (Janet I believe, though I could be wrong) had admitted that this was all a hoax. I remember reading it in a news article somewhere. Maybe parts of it were but I don't understand how all of it could have been. These were simpler times and we didn't have access to the kinds of paraphernalia that we have now, much less be able to afford such things even if some were available. How certain things were staged is beyond me especially when others bore witness to certain happenings. The voice I completely agree could have been faked, I thought as much at the time too. Obviously I don't know 100% that the hauntings and happening were genuine but it's a fascinating story for sure.

Fascinating, Beardo…I’ve always wondered whether this case was genuine. I suspect some odd things happened initially but then like you explained other factors kicked in and it exploded. I am 58 now but when I was around 12 I experienced some very strange things at my parents house…it got so bad I wouldn’t go in there on my own. It started with the most horrendous smell of rotten fish which would appear instantly from nowhere and disappear just as quickly - the odd thing was only me and my mum could smell it, my dad couldn’t. He had all the electrics checked and everything to try and find a cause but never found one. This happened many times, also door handles moving up and down when there was nobody on the other side of the door and other things. I went to a spiritualist church in the end with my sister and asked for some advice…they advised me to say out loud to go away and leave me alone. I felt a bit of an idiot doing it but I did and it gradually dissipated. I’ve been interested in the paranormal ever since.

I completely struggle to believe in this case. Maybe it started with something odd which a kids imagination ran wild with. The mum being so stressed had no clue how to solve it, so went to the Police. It snowballed from there. I don't believe the girls were sinister with it. I just think they thought, if we do this once and prove it they'll just go away. Clearly that would never happen that way, they were young and naive, they were pushed into a corner. I honestly believe the original issues (before it got carrier away) were real but caused by the girls. It was a telekinetic manifestation by the girls going through extremely negative emotional and psychological trauma. It's similar to the Bell Witch case. There really does seem to be something about girls at that stage of their life that can lend itself to paranormal happenings. External forces like investigators, press, constant public scrutiny, will only increase the activity, but also fake activity for the audience. There's a reason that kids see/feel things that we don't.

I also think, if it was real they would be terrified, esp Janet. However, in that interview you showed on her & her sister on the couch, she seemed very relaxed & even happy.. the sister seemed relaxed too. If I (or my sister next to me) were possessed & speaking in voices like that I’d be shitting my pants. I certainly wouldn’t be cool as a cucumber having a casual chat like that. A lot to think about! I wonder if people who initially believe something is paranormal are sometimes just as swayed in the other direction when someone tells them "it's nothing. There's no such thing." I know as a kid, my mom did her best to convince me that ghosts weren't real, and her power of suggestion was all i could cling on to when i was in such terror, looking at a person who was impossibly in my bedroom standing right in front of me. Maybe it's uncool or mainstream to believe in the afterlife, but i like pumpkin spice, too, and I'm just gonna go with what I've seen time and time again. To deny the consistency seems like a kind of faith in cynics that i guess i don't have 😂 Just my opinion ☀️

Yet the home now is quiet ... Kids are pranksters, and parents want some fame and screentime. Would be great to see poltergeist activity firsthand, but maybe it's not real. I do believe that some of it was real but due to parts of it being proven to be faked that it heavily hurt its credibility and has made it nearly impossible to say if the house is or was haunted

Hey Beardo, just watching a Bbc2 programme called Haunting and they're reshowing the Enfield Poltergeist. The first time I watched it I thought it fascinating but after watching you a little cynicism has crept in. I'll be rewatching this video later.

Ive always wondered if a best selling book published less than a month after the first reported Enfield issues had any influence over the media and those who later investigated the happenings. It was the Amityville Horror which later spawned a very famous movie in 1979

Brilliant breakdown brother. I was 6 when this happened and I can't remember ever hearing of it until the movie came out. I personally think it was all staged. Little girls looking for attention. With a single mom raising 4 kids, it's easy to see how one could feel left out.

I really like your videos ❤ You tell it how it is Like I’ve said before I have witnessed a ghost or something as a child and had paranormal experiences since but I am skeptical at most things I see on tv or news and it’s good that you look into things something I’ve always try to debunk myself

I’ve been waiting for an enfield piece. I agree that something happened to some degree despite some fakery. The BBC put out a tv movie that was truly scary. I believe it showed Janet falling through the ceiling like aportation. Scary.

I was born in Enfield and lived there for 27 years (From 1987 to 2014) My best friend growing up lived at the top end of Green Street so I spent a lot of time around there and passed that house hundreds of times. we all knew the sorties and every kid in the area knew exactly which house it was. Admitedly we would always cross the road so we didn;t have to walk directly past it but... it's just a normal house. If there ever was anything. There's nothing there now. I've always belived the same as you. There was some truth to what happened but most of it was just them playing up for the cameras. Regardless. This story got me into the paranormal and I have been interested in it ever since so that's a plus.
