Rly Nice that you dont do any sound demo's. I see so many ppl complaining in on other channels etc, about They did not play the speakers, OR complaining about the sound. Some people just dont understand that they can't even get a tiny impression from demo's over yt. And Even worse is that most ppl listening to demo's over their phone or crappy gaming headset. And even if we where to do that, the mic has to be placed in perfect center, the mic had to be a rly good mic, and we har to listen to it somewhere else than YT, becouse of the compressed audio :)

Andrew, I don't leave a lot of KZitem comments, but I want to take a moment to say how much I appreciate your content. Maybe I'm reading into things, but in the past few videos, you seemed to spend a good portion of time explaining your approach to things or the relevance of various use cases. If I didn't know better, it almost seemed as though you were anticipating criticism and justifying your opinion. I probably am reading into things, but as someone who loved the work you did before, your video explaining why you took a long break from the hobby is always on the back of my mind. I'm a younger audiophile and definitely think that expanding the hobby is more productive than divisive gatekeeping. I missed your informative and grounded content while you were away, so you can bet I was overjoyed when you uploaded again. Yet with the last few videos, I can't help but wonder if you're navigating some of those experiences again. I hope I'm wrong, because I'd selfishly hate to lose you again. I don't always agree with every opinion you have, but boy am I glad you're out there expressing them. I have a pair of Crown XLS 2502's powering my 3.1 system because you brought them to my attention after your return. I actually downsized from a 5.1 system, so does that make me a recovering audiophile? I never knew about them before and it was your unique approach that led me to purchase them. Even if the product you're reviewing isn't of interest to me, I know you assess things with value and accessibility on the forefront of your mind. And value is definitely something I'm getting out of both the Crown amps and your content. I'm enjoying my speakers and music more than ever and it's thanks to you. If nothing else, know that you have this extremely rare commenter who will continue to watch your videos and look forward to what you do next.

High end reviews lost me around the time stereophile gave a (generous) C to some expensive and inept alon speakers. They later upgraded the review to an "A". WTF? It was the 1st time they proved the unmitigated fuckery that goes on with reviews. No bad reviews, even when something actually sounds pedestrian measures bad. No real praise for less costly gear that truly outperforms a lot of expensive boutique gear. I'm not even going to delve into the snake oil. At the very least, they are intellectually disingenuous. Knowing that some things are arbitrarily overpriced to force snob appeal. More show than go. They knowingly tout incredibly dubious things.

Let me push back on something you say in this video. You make a distinction between super high-end expensive speakers and smaller more affordable speakers, the Buchart being a good example. You report that although your personal interests incline you towards reviewing the high-end speaker, you believe that a channel like this must cater to the tastes and financial means of your viewers, who will generally have a modest budget and space. To be an audiophile means that you have an intense interest in the reproduction of recorded music in the home. Some of that interest is limited to equipment you might actually buy. But another part of it is being informed about what is going on in the industry. I recall when I was in my early twenties and could not afford to buy expensive equipment. Nonetheless, I still loved reading about it and knowing about what the best speakers and amplifiers available were and how trained listeners reacted when they auditioned this equipment. This is a substantial part of the hobby. In the last year I have become aware of the many KZitem audiophile channels, yours, Zero Fidelity, New Record Day, Steve Guttenberg, Paul McGowen, AV Show Reports, and others. The main problem with many of these channels (not all) is that they subscribe to the same philosophy that you describe in this video. It is an endless stream of small, affordable bookshelf speakers, one after the other. At some point I yearn for reviews true high-end equipment. IMHO an audiophile speaker just about has to be a good-sized floor standing design. No bookshelf can adequately convey the dynamics and frequency extension of live music, but there is a severe shortage of reviews about these speakers. I suspect that this is not only about cost but simply about the logistics of getting a large speaker sent to you and setup in your home for audition. This will be much more labor intensive than dealing with bookshelves. So, I get it. But the problem remains. . . .
@andrewrobinsonreviews

Allow me to push back on your push back 😉. First, I do hear what you're saying and largely agree with all of it, for I too, when I was young, enjoyed reading about Wilson Audio and such, despite knowing my chance of owning said speaker was one and a million (or so I thought). But, for my part (again, I don't concern myself with other KZitemrs), I feel we strike a good balance here with respect to budget vs. high-end. If anything this has not been a channel comprised of only cheap Chinese manufactured bookshelf speakers. I know I'm still "new" in that I've only started reviewing again on this channel in 2019, but I feel we've struck a good mix. All that said, the issue really is, that people in my position cannot win for losing. I don't mean that in a negative way, but rather, it doesn't really much matter what I do, for someone is going to disagree with my choice. Sadly, disagreements are often shared via the Internet, whereas praise comes by word of mouth. So in reality, it may be that other creators are feeling "pressured" to talk about "cheap" products, because, according to the vocal minority within their audience, they catch hell when they don't. I'm not saying this is the cause, but it could definitely be a factor. I know from my perspective, there is a good mix of everything coming, and I hope you'll hang around for it. Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment.

Andrew, first of all, it’s obvious that you’ve gotten this job/gig/whatever because you’re very well spoken and articulate when you speak, which is wonderful to listen to, btw. You must be very well educated or have grown up around people who were also that way, so it becomes second nature. I’ve watched many if not all of your old videos for people like Emotiva, which we already chatted about, if you remember. Your videos also have a very professional look and sound to them, which is another reason why they work. I know that you mentioned that, but I feel it's worth mentioning again, because it’s not easy. If it’s any consolation, I’ve got a similar job of repairing audio and guitar amps or basically anything electronic. A lot of the time, I have to turn away work because I can tell right away that the repair might actually cost more than the item is actually worth, as I’m sure you’re aware of. Of course, I could just take their money and do the repair, but that’s not how I operate, and I get a feeling you don’t either. I also work on a strict timeline, because people obviously want their stuff back ASAP, which can also make things difficult if I take in too much work. That too sounds like a good problem to have, but it’s not for obvious reasons. It’s nice to see someone lay out and explain how the audio review business, because it is a business after all, truly works. You’re a talented, smart, experienced, and honest reviewer above all, and I thank you for that. There have been many reviews of the Buscardt S400’s, and yours is truly the best I’ve seen so far. I like the fact that you took the time to get into every detail whether it be a pro or con too. In the end though, they seem like spectacular spkrs which I actually may be interested in trying a pair, and I’ve already got a set of Tekton Pendragons, which I’d never get rid of, but there’s nothing wrong with having a couple different flavors available. I truly thank you for everything, Andrew. Please continue to do things exactly how you’ve been doing them. It’s wonderful to see that you are truly happy too. 🙂 - Nick P.S. I haven’t seen your CNN appearance yet, but from what you’re said here, it would seem that we’re in agreement on that subject, which should not be taken lightly.

I appreciate your channel very much. I agree with you that sound demoing is mostly useless through video outputting sound via whatever you are listening on. It's going to reflect the qualities of your own device. I also can appreciate how easily the clutter can get out of hand, especially if you are trying to review multiple items with more in the wings. I think the problem is that it can be difficult for folks to find the time/money to test/listen to different systems in their own environment, so have to rely on reviews and so called "sound demos". Also, the WAF is a real thing. :)

I watched a review the other day and one guy in the comments said this: '18 mins of some guy yakking about speakers… let us hear the damn things' This guy thinks, that if the reviewer plays something on the system he's talking about, and includes that in his review video, that we're going to be able to hear the speakers the guy was talking about. I don't care if it's a 16K set of speakers he's reviewing, I'm not going to hear them. I'm going to hear those speakers, being recorded by who knows what kind of mic, recorded on who knows what kind of gear. Then I'm going to hear a file that resides on a server that youtube owns, as it's transmitted from that server, to a long haul network, through all the gateways and transport gear on that network, to the transfer to my ISP, through their network, their switching gear, to a distribution network, to the lines that service my street, to the cable modem sitting in my living room, to my router, to my cat 5 cables, to my port on my PC, to my soundblaster Z card, to my outboard Cambridge Audio DAC, to my NAD amp, to my Sundara headphones. I'm not going to hear those speakers that dude records.

Feedback is a useful means that is often times taken personal. Can sound demos make a difference over a computer with headphones regarding speakers? Yes they can. I’ve made happy purchases utilizing them and received what I was expecting (more so even). Think Kenrick Sound on KZitem as an example. Any means that helps to make a product more enticing should be part of the tool box. But almost all reviewers on KZitem say that sound demos are useless. They take work and time certainly, but they do have value.

Andrew Robinson For sure. Kenrick Sound usually are sold out of speakers, many that cost upwards of $30k USD, simply by using sound demos. They need to get a clue, poor inexperienced lads..

It's also possible they're sold out because they're refurbishing truly one of a kind or rare loudspeakers that are or would likely be in demand NO MATTER what they did. Yes their videos have sound, but they are basically using those videos to show the condition of said vintage wares and to otherwise prove that they do, in fact ,work. Do I appreciate seeing them as a video is likely as close as I or anyone else will get to such audiophile treasures, absolutely, but to suggest that it is because of their sound demos that these speakers are selling is an overstatement in my opinion. Additionally, if the company's channel were monetized, they'd be flagged and removed by KZitem for the gross copyright infringements, something I am not willing to risk.

@@andrewrobinsonreviews Nice try. They make replicas as well. Simply stated, encourage the community. Any method that gets someone to buy audio gear is a good thing.

Andrew ... you reviewers need to get some interns to unpack, set up, swap and repack it! 😬 Oh ... they need to prepare you a hot choc too for you to enjoy when you start the listening session. 😂 But seriously, as a hifi enthusiast, we take time before we commit to a purchase. We listen, listen, go back, think, think, then go back to the shop again. Yeah ... it takes time. Time is money. So there must be some remuneration for your time & effort. Sponsorship is not wrong at all. When more sponsors come your way, it shows you are doing it right.

I've heard many great sounding videos that sounded as such even through buds and a phone. It is possible. Of course not soundstage but clarity, tonal density and depth easily. It is possible. Most of the time I listen through a high end secondary system. I don't think most people are still listening through $5 computer speakers.

Enjoying sound is a journey of self discovery as much as it is about following new exciting audio innovations. In general terms, you say that it should be cheap, or in other words "accessible". My journey proved it is not - the R&D is time consuming and expensive, and the mass market WILL cut corners to make it cheap. I used to like "cheap", and started at "cheap", then I bit the bullet and focused on piecing together two systems around components from specialists such as Audio Research and Manley Labs. The kids call my situation "end game". Maybe you could focus on some "end game" equipment as well as the "cheap" and "accessible" - because you kinda come across as a marketing specialist on the payroll of the industry - empire building. Maybe you're nodding and say that you are, however, there's not much integrity in that approach. Your approach is all over the place and self-congratulatory. Sorry. Try giving it more substance.

Awesome video Andrew, very well done. Thank You for sharing your personal journey with us viewers. Your story is very insightful, and interesting. I got into the hi-fi hobby in 1975 when I was 14. So I have been enjoying the hobby for a long time, but I have never been a reviewer. So it was very interesting for me to learn about an aspect of my hobby that I really didn't know about. One of the reasons I like your channel so much is that I am constantly learning something new. Thank You so much for your excellent work!

Most publication reviewers are full of themselves. Some are real fun and entertaining. I am thinking about doing this but I am not sure I want to do something different. I want to stay small and budget solutions only. More talking about news and what is exciting not doing the hassle of gear. One channel I watch his place is infested with audio gear. It is crazy. I agree with you. The hassle is not worth it. 50 years plus doing AV I don't need it. Love the video here keeping it real.

Thank you. I've been diving deep into understanding some new post software, and the black and white is one of the many profiles I've now customized through the software. I like it, and am now seeing how different cameras react to it (the software). But thank you for noticing and for watching!

Sigh... the point of a demo is not to give an accurate description of a speaker. You need to build a catalogue to compare like z does.... a sound demo by itself doesnt make sense

The point is NOT to give an accurate description? Then why do it?

villegas24 Frankly it’s a bit insulting that you suggest that Andrew doesn’t understand the point of a demo. He spends HOURS listening to different subject material to be as objective as possible for each and every review. Perhaps you could refrain from suggesting he conduct his review like another channel. If you prefer the guy who straps a go pro to his head, good for you but maybe don't bring it here.

What z does is very different from what Andrew does. They both have their value but I like hearing things from a different perspective and want Andrew to keep doing what he does and I want z to keep doing what he does.
